Pining for Plaid October 2017 Paper Pumpkin Kit Alternate Ideas

The October 2017 Paper Pumpkin kit was fun to play with! I hope you enjoy what I have to share with you today. I made it all with the contents of this kit and a few extra supplies/products which I have listed below and linked to my online store.

Watch my video first to get measurements, directions, and tips for these projects…

  • a telescoping card (made without using dies)
  • 2 super simple cards using coordinating Merry Little Christmas designer paper
  • and a 12×12 scrapbook page layout
  • a “bagalope”
  • and a bridge fold card

Then scroll down to see close-up photos and a list of extra supplies I used to make them.

Here are the cards to make according to the directions that come in the kit. I actually changed up Stampin’ Up!’s directions a little for assembling the shaker part of these cards and shared my tips in my video.

Demos Galore Gifts & Paper Pumpkin Peek

On October 9th I posted a few samples of some September 2017 Paper Pumpkin projects I shared at our Demos Galore event on September 30th. I actually had triple duty during the event…demonstrating/chatting about Paper Pumpkin kits, sharing how to double the cards in the Watercolor Christmas card kit, and making announcements every 1/2 hour so attendees could hear about the specials, the make-n-takes, etc.

Almost a month has passed, and I’m finally getting around to showing you the fun gifts, the pretty name tag, and the make-n-take card from this event. These first two photos show the gifts we offered for every $50 in products ordered that day. People had their choice of these three.

Click here to see Demos Galore Gifts & Bridge Fold Card make-n-take &…an October Paper Pumpkin Peek (an alternate card from my upline)! ...#stampyourartout - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

Inside each Acetate Card Box were samplings of each sheet from a set of designer papers along with some coordinating embellishments. Everyone loved this offer, and we ended up having to prepare (right there at the event!) twice as many as we had projected needing.

The other gift was a smaller sampler of designer paper, base Whisper White cardstock prepped for a bridge-fold card, and a direction sheet sharing how to make a bridge-fold card. This gift was given to everyone who ordered a minimum of $25.

Each attendee & demonstrator at the event got to make a bridge-fold card (hence the gift above). I found a couple spare minutes to make one, too. This was mine! (On Tuesday evening I will be sharing another bridge-fold card and will give step-by-step directions for it. So come back to visit in a couple days!)

Demos Galore was a spectacular event filled with several tables of demonstrators demonstrating, make-n-takes, tons of display boards of ideas, gifts and prizes, and refreshments. I highly recommend attending our next one on January 27th if you live nearby. It will be held in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Plus each newsletter shares timely news and project ideas.

Susan came over to visit me the other day and brought me a gift to once again congratulate me for earning the Alaskan cruise. This is the next Stampin’ Up! incentive trip being held next July 2018, and we are taking our boys this time. So she had the boys help me open it. And inside were these fun plush bears for them and books and seasoning for Tim and me! She’s such a sweetie.

I Have Cats on the Brain Lately

We have a couple cats that have been wandering around our neighborhood lately. One of them has been a mystery cat for quite some time. We couldn’t figure out who owned her, so she was given the name Princess by the kids in our neighborhood. A new family just moved in at the end of the block and decided to take her in. They brought her to the vet to made sure she was healthy and get her shots. The child living there is super happy, renamed her Hermione, and all is well. (We think the previous owner of their house left this cat since Hermione had a lot of familiarity with their house.)

She is an outdoor cat, so sometimes the cat will be gone for days at a time. But at least we know that she has a home now.

The other one belongs to a family that we have been friends with and know well. (Their son, Carter is really good friends with my boys.) The cat’s name is Ruckus, and he hangs out here a LOT since Carter spends a lot of time playing here. We often find Ruckus outside our door in the morning and at night…

…and even way up on top of our open garage door during the day. Last night we let him in because it was raining and he was meowing at our door. Carter’s mom came to get him soon after, but he devoured up a can of tuna while he was here. (I think I may need to purchase some cat food to have on hand since Ruckus may take advantage of us again on a future rainy night now that he knows we have weak hearts. LOL

I think we need a pet. hahaha!

So because we’ve had cats on the brain a lot lately, I thought I’d share a couple cards I made recently with the popular Cat Punch from the 2017 Holiday Catalog. This first is the first one.

Seasonal Chums Foil Snowflake Cards

Yesterday I shared about our new Stampin’ Blends alcohol-based markers that will be available to everyone soon (and are available to current Stampin’ Up!® demonstrators and anyone purchasing the Starter Kit now through October 15). These Blends produce beautiful results when coloring. Here are a few cards I just finished featuring the Seasonal Chums stamp set, the Blends, our Wood Textures designer paper (which is part of the October Buy 3, Get 1 Free special), and the delicate Foil Snowflakes.

The Wood Textures paper pack has lots of wood grain patterns. This lighter gray pattern I thought looked best on a Basic Black cardstock base. I matched that with a silver Foil Snowflake and a strip of silver washi tape. Ta-da! Here is the first card.

To color in the snowman on the Whisper White cardstock, I used some Blends markers combo packs (Smoky Slate, Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie, and Burmuda Bay), the Ivory and Light Pool Party Blends, and the Color Lifter.

Seasonal Chums Foil Snowflake Cards featuring the new Stampin’ Blends – artist quality alcohol-based markers by Stampin’ Up!’s!...#stampyourartout - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

On each of my three cards I lifted this front circular layer up onto Dimensionals.

The inside circular layer (covering up the backside of the snowflake and showing off the back image of the snowman) is not on Dimensionals – just attached with SNAIL Adhesive.

I love the results that coloring with Blends gives.

Here is the second card. The pumpkin is stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock and the card base is Soft Suede cardstock.

All of the cardstock colors I am mentioning can be found in the Neutrals collection. I’ve added below a visual list of all the supplies I used to make these three cards. And each item is linked to my online store if you wish to make a purchase. But keep in mind that the Blends and Color Lifter are not available to order right now unless you plan to purchase them in a Starter Kit OR you are currently an active Stampin’ Up! demonstrator.

Though each of my three cards that I’m sharing today are different, they all share the same measurements for their pieces. Here are the measurements for the pumpkin card pieces.

Measurements:

  • Soft Suede Cardstock: 7-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″…two pieces die-cut with the 2-3/8″ circle die
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock: 2-3/4″ x 5-1/4″…two pieces punched with the 2-1/4″ Circle Punch…scrap for stamping and die-cutting the pumpkin images
  • Wood Textures Designer paper: 2″ x 5-1/2″
  • Gold Foil Snowflake: 1/2 piece
  • Year of Cheer Washi Tape: 5-1/2″

This is what this card looked like before I started assembling the pieces.

If you plan to recreate any of these cards, be sure that your Foil Snowflake piece and designer paper meet up and that the snowflake doesn’t extend beyond the outer edges of the entire card so you can fit it into an envelope.

These were the 4 sets of cards I contributed to those swaps. I've shared each of these already here in my blog. Check them out! This first bundle of cards are the wreath cards I shared yesterday.

Painted Harvest Wreath Card

Did you know you can turn the sunflower image from the Painted Harvest stamp set into a wreath?!

Wreath card made with the sunflower image from the Painted Harvest stamp set...#stampyourartout - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

This is a fairly simple card to recreate. In fact it's so quick and simple that I made a bunch of them as swaps recently. (You'll want to stop back tomorrow to see some of my favorite swap cards I got back.)

Here are some details for recreating this one. (A full product list linked to my online store is below.)

Measurements:

  • Early Espresso Cardstock: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" folded in half for the card base
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock: 4" x 5-1/4" for the inside…and scrap for stamping and punching out the wreath piece
  • Real Red Cardstock: 3-1/4" x 3-1/4"
  • Wood Textures Designer Paper: 3" x 3"
  • Real Red 1/8" Ribbon: about 7"
  • Very Vanilla Lace Trim: 3-1/4"

Directions:

  • Stamp the smaller, more detailed sunflower image in Garden Green ink onto Very Vanilla scrap. Punch out.
  • Stamp the berries and add a bow with a Glue Dot.
  • Stamp the tree rings with Early Espresso ink onto the front of the Early Espresso card.
  • Attach the designer paper to the Real Red using SNAIL. Put adhesive on the back bottom edge of the Real Red and attach the Lace Trim so it peeks out in the front evenly. Then attach this whole thing to the front of the card.
  • Attach the wreath layer to the front using Dimensionals.
  • Stamp a sentiment if you wish (mine is blank) to the 4" x 5-1/4" Very Vanilla piece and add to the inside of the card.
