January 2021 Sending Hearts PP Kit Alternate Ideas

What a fun love-themed Paper Pumpkin kit! I just put together my first set of alternate projects using the January 2021 Sending Hearts Paper Pumpkin monthly subscription kit! And I’m excited to share them with you today!

This adorable kit contained the supplies shown below to make eight heart-filled full-size cards.

The January 2021 Sending Paper Pumpkin Kit. - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

But I never assemble my kits as is, because I like to show subscribers other ways to use those supplies. I like to think outside the box…see what else I can come up with, and create alternate cards, scrapbook pages and more. So today I’m sharing with you…

  • How to turn eight cards into twenty!
  • A few variations with the coordinating Love Boxes Add-On kit (available while supplies last)
  • And a couple two-compartment treat boxes

Watch my video first by clicking here to get to get measurements, directions, and tips (or you can just click on this image below if you are already in my blog post). Scroll down to see close-up photos, access the links that I mentioned in my video, and see a list of extra supplies (linked to my online store) that I used to make my creations. Then be sure to visit my blog again soon, because I have many more alternate projects that I’ll be sharing on January 28 and again on February 9th.

Here are the two styles of cards the kit instructs how to make. (Click here for a link to Stampin’ Up!’s how-to video to help you assemble these as intended.)

Angled Corner Layer Valentine

Cutting a 6×6 piece of designer paper in the way that I’m going to share with you today makes it SOOOoo easy to give your cards that fun angled corner layer without waste. I used to just add a rectangular layer at an angle and trim up the excess on the two sides, but it took a bit more planning to make sure I was adding a good size rectangular piece without making it too big. Because again…I didn’t want to have too much waste. So check this out!

Products I used… See below for a complete list of products linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Measurements

  • Basic White Thick Cardstock
    • 4-1/4” x 11” scored parallel to short side at 5-1/2”
    • Scraps for stamping and die-cutting flowers
  • Basic Black Cardstock
    • 4″ x 5-1/4″
    • Scrap for die-cutting sentiment piece
  • Smoky Slate Cardstock
    • 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″
  • In Color 2020–2022 6×6 Designer Series Paper (available in the January 2021 Sale-a-Bration Starter Kit) – Magenta Madness
    • 1/4 piece of 6×6 (cut as directed below)

Directions

  • Mark lightly with a pencil 1-1/2″ in from each left corner on all four sides of your 6×6 designer paper. Use a straight-edge or ruler to draw a light line to connect the marks opposite of each other. Use the Trimmer to cut along those lines. Then erase the pencil marks or flip the paper over and use that side instead as your visible layer.

  • Add a piece of Adhesive Sheet to your Basic Black scrap. Die-cut the word “love.”
  • Stamp then die-cut the flowers. Use a Blending Brush to add a bit of Magenta Madness ink to the center of each flower. Use a Bone Folder to curl up the ends of the petals.
  • Attach the Magenta Madness designer Paper to the upper corner of the Smoky Slate layer.
  • Stamp “you so very much” parallel to and about 1/2″ from the bottom edge. Peel off the release paper from the die-cut “love” and attach to the card as shown.
  • Adhere this layer to the Basic Black layer, then adhere all of that to the Basic White card base.
  • Add the flowers.
  • And finally embellish with a few Rhinestones in the flower centers.

Joy To the World Countdown and Scrapbook Page

Today is the last day to sign up for (or have an active subscription for) Paper Pumpkin so you get in on the upcoming November kit. (See the details below). Did you get last month’s kit? If you did, be sure to check out my fun alternate projects that I shared on October 20 and on October 29. And today I have a couple more that I created with the October 2020 Joy to the World kit: a scrapbook page and a fun countdown to Christmas project.

I’m excited to show you my scrapbook page and Countdown to Christmas that I made using the contents of the October 2020 Joy To The World Paper Pumpkin kit and a few other products. Click here to access measurements, tips, more close-up photos, and links to the products I used. - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

Extra products I used… See below for a complete list of extra products I used linked to where you can find them in my online store.

My page is love-themed (Valentine, engagement, wedding, etc). Although you could easily change out the title to “joy” or “peace” and maybe include other words or sentiments from the kit’s stamp set if you wish to keep it for Christmas. But I had fun cutting the letters from the other words apart to form the word “you.”

All of the photo mats are the embossed 3″ x 3-1/4″ and 3″ x 4-1/8″ pieces in the kit. So the only pieces I cut were the layers inside the center photo mat: 2-7/8″ x 4″ Cherry Cobbler Cardstock and 2-3/4″ x 3-7/8″ embossed piece from the kit.

Tips…

  • Lay all the pieces out first without adhering to get a feel for where everything should be.
  • Lift up the floral pieces and sponge Cherry Cobbler ink onto the Cherry Cobbler Cardstock to create a bit of shadow.
  • Optional but subtle details you would add at this point: add some score lines to the corners so the are running under the flower areas…add some speckles of Wink of Stella by tapping the brush against something hard as you move it above the base 12×12 cardstock.
  • Attach the photo mats and gold banners.
  • Attach the title pieces by sponging Multipurpose Liquid Glue to the back sides.
  • Add the flower pieces (two are up on Dimensionals) after attaching small loops of the twine (from the kit).
  • Stamp the berries image here and there around the floral/title areas.
  • Add Gilded Gems to the flower centers.

The countdown to Christmas project is made with the Christmas Countdown Kit. This is what the kit looks like when assembled as is. BUT there is a backside to each drawer! You can turn the drawers around and decorate them as you wish. So why not have two versions so each year you can change it out for variety?

The Christmas Countdown project kit is back this year. Click here to access measurements, tips, more close-up photos, and links to the products I used. - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

You’ll want to start out by cutting the kit cards and envelope printed lining into 1-15/16″ x 1-15/16″ squares (cut just under 2″ x 2″). I used two envelopes and two card bases to cut eight Cherry Cobbler printed, nine plain Crumb Cake, and eight foiled Crumb Cake squares.

Tips…

  • After cutting the squares, use the smallest Layering Circles die to die-cut a notch in the top of each. (Pay attention to the direction of your printed squares.)
  • Position where you want your floral pieces, then pick up each square to trim the floral piece to fit.  You can trim the 1/2 circle notch further out (as shown below) since there is a bit of room between the notch edge and the notch on the actual drawer.
  • Cut loops from some of the brass foil words and attach them peeking out from under a few of the floral pieces.

Click here to access measurements, tips, more close-up photos, and links to the products I used. - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

  • After figuring out where your floral pieces will go, stamp the floral stamp image on each of the outer plain Crumb Cake squares. Then adhere the floral pieces.
  • Attach your squares to the drawer fronts.
  • Then die-cut your numbers 1-25 from Early Espresso Cardstock scraps that have been backed with Adhesive Sheets. If you don’t have Adhesive Sheets, die-cutting as is is fine. But then I recommend sponging Multipurpose Liquid Glue to the back sides to adhere them to your squares.

Z-Fold Cards with Peony Garden & Gilded Autumn

Happy World Card Making Day! Yes, today is the day you have the world’s permission to make time for this fun paper-crafting hobby (in case you needed an excuse to get away to your craft room).

One of my most popular YouTube videos that I shared on September 16th featured how to get five different cards from one accordion folded piece of designer paper. I have that video on my September 16th blog post. I created two different cards with one of the folds. And then four days later on September 20th I shared the completed cards for the remaining four folds. Be sure to click on those links to see all the cards I created. Maybe those cards will inspire you today to pull out that designer paper that has been sitting on your shelves?

I’m sharing five more of the z-fold style cards from that fold but with different products. By the way, these cards all have a slightly smaller sheet of designer paper. I trimmed off 1/4″ from the left end to expose more of both sides of the designer paper on the front section. You can see the difference between the top card (that I shared on the 20th) and the bottom one.

Five fun z-fold style cards made with an accordion folded sheet of designer paper (that can also convert to four other style cards depending on how your adhere the folds). Click here to see photos of all five cards, get more information so you can recreate them yourself, and to get links to other cards featuring these folds. - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

So I’ll start with that one.
You may be wondering were I got that pretty blue designer paper? I added Balmy Blue ink with a sponge brayer and just sponged more ink on the left and less on the right to get that ombré look.
