Picnic Paradise July 2018 Paper Pumpkin Alternates

I have a few more alternate project ideas to share with you today – things I made using the contents of the July 2018 Picnic Paradise Paper Pumpkin kit from Stampin’ Up!

Besides the bridge-fold picnic table card that I shared on July 21st, the free-standing pop-up card that I shared on July 26th during the blog hop, AND the Flip-Open Pocket Card that I shared on August 1st, today I am sharing three more ideas:

  • some simple origami fold treat pouches
  • a 12×12 scrapbook page layout with a fun strawberry pie
  • and a fruit snack “monster” treat holder

If you like what I share today and have never gotten a Paper Pumpkin kit before, you may want to scroll down to read more about signing up by August 10th for the 50% off August kit special. There is no commitment! You can try out the beautiful August kit for $10+tax and then stop your subscription if you find these kits (that I love oh so much) not for you.

Here are the cards & baskets that the July kit instructs how to make. The kit gives you enough product to make 4 sets of these.

And below are my three alternate ideas I’m sharing with you today. (I LOVE thinking outside the box and creating new ideas with these kit contents! I’ve done it with every kit since the first one in 2013!)

Simple origami fold treat pouches

Directions:

  • Follow the step-by-step visual & written directions on my May 11, 2017 post for how to fold the Cotton/Tissue Paper in this kit into an origami treat pouch.
  • Tuck inside a bit and adhere a 3″ x 3″ 1/2 note card from the kit to line the back.
  • Stamp the sentiments on the white strips.
  • Then attach the fruit shapes and white strips to the front with Dimensionals and Glue Dots from the kit.

Measurements of extra products:

  • Mossy Meadow Cardstock: 12″ x 12″
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock: 12″ x 12″ & scrap for tracing and cutting out pie base
  • Poppy Parade Cardstock: scrap for tracing and cutting out pie
  • Early Espresso Cardstock: 7 pieces that are 4-1/8″ x 5-1/2″ for the photo mats & scraps for tracing the strawberry shapes
  • Granny Apple Green Textured Weave Ribbon: two strips each 15″ long

Measurements of kit products:

  • White twine: three piece each 8″ long

Directions:

  • Trace the strawberry shapes onto the Early Espresso scraps, cut out so they are slightly smaller than the strawberries, and adhere to the back so the brown shows through the holes to create dark seeds.
  • Tie two pieces of twine into small bows. Add the strawberries to the vellum squares from the kit with Dimensionals. Add the bows with rolled up Glue Dots. Attach some leaves and set aside.
  • Trace a CD (compact disc) on the Crumb Cake and the Poppy Parade scraps. Mark the center on the Poppy Parade one, then cut this carefully on the line of the traced circle.

  • Add sticker strips from the kit. Start with the center. Use the marked center to line up the hole in the long sticker strip. Cover it back up afterwards. Add the second one perpendicular to the first, and then add the remaining strips so that they weave in and out to form a lattice pie top.

  • Flip it all over and trim to get the extended strip pieces off the Poppy Parade circle.
  • Then hand cut about 1/4″ of an inch away from the traced circle on the Crumb Cake one and make the cut line wavy on purpose to form the “crust.” Flip it over (or erase the pencil marks).

  • Sponge Crumb Cake ink around the outside edges the Poppy Parade pie center piece and the Crumb Cake “crust.”
  • Attach the Poppy Parade piece to the Crumb Cake “crust” with Dimensionals.
  • Add the ribbon, pie, strawberry squares and photo mats to the 12×12 sheets of cardstock to form the pages.
  • Stamp the dashed line around the photo mats. I used Crumb Cake ink on both the Mossy Meadow and Crumb Cake cardstock. Use washi tape (or sticky notes) to mask areas where you don’t want to get ink while stamping.

  • Trim off the color strip on a tag from the kit. Stamp the tag with your page title if you’d like (I recommend sentiments from the upcoming Merry Christmas To All stamp set debuting on September 1st in the Holiday Catalog) or use it for journaling. Tie the third piece of white twine onto this tag, and attach it to the pie with Dimensionals so that is covers up the circles/holes from the pie strips.

Measurements of extra products:

  • Basic Black Cardstock: scraps for behind the “eyes” to cover up the holes and create black pupils (I used the 1/2″ circle punch to make my scrap pieces.)

Measurements of kit products:

  • Card Bases: two that are 2-3/4″ wide x 6″ long (just trim off 1/4″ from the side) and scored at 3″ (already done for you) and 5″

Directions:

  • Cut and score two card bases pieces (use measurements above). Then prepare your pieces and assemble the “face” on one of the 3″ x 2-3/4″ card panels:

(The smile comes from the apple scrap. And the scrap piece from the blueberry nose can be re-added with a Glue Dot or two so it pops up a bit and looks like a mole.)

  • After preparing card base pieces, adhere them together as shown. Add the fruit snack pouches.

Come see what I share on my blog… #stampyourartout - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

Speaking of Paper Pumpkin…I’ve come to the conclusion that I won’t be able to do a tutorial video for the adorable July kit. I have ideas swimming in my head, but I was on vacation (on the Stampin’ Up! incentive trip) for almost two weeks. I got the kit just days before we left. And now that we are back, I just don’t have much more spare time before the August kit gets here. But I have shared two fun-fold card ideas so far:

  • CLICK HERE to see the fun picnic table card I shared on July 21st.
  • CLICK HERE to see the free-standing pop up card I shared on July 26th (for the blog hop).

Plus I have been pinning ideas on my Pinterest page!

Today I want to share my 3rd fun card you can make with the contents of the July 2018 Picnic Paradise kit.

I call it my Flip Open Pocket Card. If you wish to recreate this card with your kit contents, follow the measurements and directions below.

Measurements of extra products:

  • Blueberry Bushel Cardstock: 7-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ scored at 5-1/2″ for card base
  • Whisper White Cardstock: 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″
  • Granny Apple Textured Weave Ribbon : 14″

Measurements of kit products:

  • Blue/White Cotton/Tissue Paper: 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″
  • Blueberry Envelope: trim 1″ out from the crease/score line

Extra Stampin’ Up! Products I Used:  See below for a full list of extra supplies linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Directions:

  • Stamp sentiment images on the envelope front and on the inside Whisper White piece as shown.
  • Keeping everything centered, attach 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″ Whisper White piece to the 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ Blue/White Cotton/Tissue Paper. (I cut my cotton/tissue paper diagonally from the full sheet like this.)

  • Tie the ribbon around the top of the card. (This will also cover up the trimmed flap of the envelope on the inside.)

I’ve been making quite a few freestanding pop up cards lately. So I thought it would be fun to try them with this kit. The beauty of this fun fold is that is can flatten and fit into a medium envelope, but it pops up into a fun, freestanding card when fully open.

If you wish to recreate this card with your kit contents, I encourage you to first watch the video on my July 12th post to see how the base of this type of fun-fold card is put together. Then follow the measurements and directions below.

Measurements of extra products:

  • Whisper White Thick Cardstock:
    • 11″ x 4-1/4″ scored in the middle at 5-1/2″ and then scored in at each end at 1″, 2-3/4″ and 3-3/4″
    • 2-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ (for the back)
  • Blueberry Bushel Cardstock: 2-3/4” x 5-1/2”

Measurements of kit products:

  • Basket Rim Stickers: two that are each 4-1/4″ long
  • Blue/White Cotton/Tissue Paper: either a 2-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ piece or a scrap cut to fit in that size (I had already made another card before this one, so I used a triangular scrap for the one I made because I loved the angled look.)
  • White Twine: 8″

Extra Stampin’ Up! Products I Used:  See below for a full list of extra supplies linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Directions:

  • Attach the 2-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ Whisper White to the 2-3/4″ x 5-1/2″ Blueberry Bushel piece. Attach the 2-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Blue/White Cotton/Tissue Paper to the other side. (Again…I used a scrap triangular piece I had on hand and made it fit that 2-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ space.)

Click here to see two fun freestanding pop up cards that I created (and more great ideas from others!) with the July 2018 Picnic Paradise Paper Pumpkin kit in A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop! • When looking at the 11″ x 4-1/4″ scored Whisper White, stamp the sentiment just above the score line below the middle one.
  • Watch the video on the July 12th post to see where to cut the slit in the 5-1/2″ score line, how to fold the Whisper White card base, where to add the Tear & Tape Adhesive, and how to put together the base with the inserted layered Blueberry Bushel cardstock. The two 1″ sections meet in the middle underneath and hold the bottom of the 5-1/2″ x 2-3/4″ panel that pops up through the 2-3/4″ wide slit at the top (that goes through the 5-1/2″ crease line).
  • After watching the video and assembling the base, add the remaining pieces…
  • Add a brad through the hole of each Basket Rim sticker.
  • Close the card flat and attach these stickers as shown through the 1″ tall middle front section. Insert and attach a small strawberry, too. Make sure it is tilted so it doesn’t cover up the words. And make sure it only attaches to the Basket Rim stickers.
  • Add leaf stickers to the upper left section of the Blueberry Bushel piece above where the top of the folded white card base sits when the card is closed and below the very top of the Blueberry Bushel piece. Turn the card over and tap the powder from the Embossing Buddy on the back of the leaf stickers to “remove” the stickiness.

  • Add a couple Mini Dimensionals to the top back area of a large strawberry. Then attach the strawberry at the top making sure the Mini Dimensionals are above where the top of the folded white card base sits when the card is closed.
  • Finally with a rolled up Glue Dot from the kit attach the twine tied in a bow.

Here is another version of this card.

Again, you’ll want to make sure that any embellishments on the panel piece are added with Dimensionals that are positioned just above where the card base reaches when the card is flattened. (On this card the small blueberries that I punched from the scraps in the kit are attached to the apple only.) You also want to do any stamping on the card base before you assemble the card.

To get the white behind the holes in the blueberry and apple, I just added small scraps of Whisper White to the back sides.

The July Paper Pumpkin Kit Is a Picnic!

I’m pretty excited to share the new July 2018 Picnic Paradise Paper Pumpkin kit! I dove in right away and created a few alternate ideas before heading off on our Seattle/Alaska vacation. These are the fun 3×3 cards and baskets that you CAN make if you follow the kit instructions.

Click here to see fun alternate project ideas I created with the July 2018 Picnic Paradise Paper Pumpkin kit …#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

There are enough supplies to make 12 cards (4 of each design) and 4 baskets.

Click here to see fun alternate project ideas I created with the July 2018 Picnic Paradise Paper Pumpkin kit …#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

But of course I LOVE to see what else I can create with these supplies. And oh my goodness! I can’t wait to show you this first one. (It is my favorite alternate project idea from this kit that I came up with so far!)

This kit screams picnics. Right?! And if you turn those bridge-fold cards upside-down, they look exactly like picnic tables! So that’s what made my mind go in this direction. Ta-da!

Click here to see this fun picnic table (bridge fold) card I created with the July 2018 Picnic Paradise Paper Pumpkin kit …#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

The side that is usually the front of the card on a bridge-fold is now the back on this one. It would be on this (on the white side panels) where you would write a personal message and sign your card.

Click here to see this fun picnic table (bridge fold) card I created with the July 2018 Picnic Paradise Paper Pumpkin kit …#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

If you wish to recreate this with your kit contents, here are the details.

Measurements of extra products:

  • Soft Suede Cardstock: 4-1/4″ x 8″ scored at 1-1/4″ and 2-1/2″ on each end and folded for the card base
  • Whisper White Cardstock: two pieces that are 1-1/8″ x 4-1/8″ & scrap for punching out three 1/2″ circles

Measurements of kit products:

  • Basket Handles: two that are 5-3/8″ long & four that are 4″ long (two cut in half)
  • Red/White Cotton/Tissue Paper: 3-3/4″ x 3-3/4″

Extra Stampin’ Up! Products I Used:  See below for a full list of extra supplies linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Directions:

  • Add brads to the holes of the two longer basket handle strips.
  • After folding card base, stamp the middle area of the back side.
  • Adhere Whisper White cardstock pieces to the outer panels. Flatten so one side is extended open and the other is collapsed into a z-fold. Then attach 5-3/8″ basket handle strips as shown using Tear & Tape adhesive. (If you need more guidance on how to make a bridge-fold card, click here.)
  • Punch out three 1/2″ Whisper White circles, remove the “stars” from three large blueberries, and attach the 1/2″ Whisper White circles on the backs of the blueberries so that the white fills in the space of the missing “stars.”
  • Using Mini Dimensionals from the kit and SNAIL (or Glue Dots from the kit), add the three blueberries to the basket handle strips as shown.
  • Attach three leaf stickers. (Use an Embossing Buddy to remove the stickiness from any leaves that are extended beyond the strips or the cardstock by pouncing it a few times. This tool releases a fine powder.)

Click here to see this fun picnic table (bridge fold) card I created with the July 2018 Picnic Paradise Paper Pumpkin kit …#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

Click here to see this fun picnic table (bridge fold) card I created with the July 2018 Picnic Paradise Paper Pumpkin kit …#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

  • Flip the card over and attach the shorter basket handles to the “seats.” Then carefully squeeze out a drop of liquid adhesive from the Fine Tip Glue to each hold. When this dries (and give it plenty of time to do so) it will be clear and shiny. This is a great way to give the appearance of smaller brads (or nails in the wood).

Click here to see this fun picnic table (bridge fold) card I created with the July 2018 Picnic Paradise Paper Pumpkin kit …#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

  • After the Fine Tip Glue has dried, attach the red/white picnic tablecloth using plenty of SNAIL adhesive on all four sides. Trim off the excess on the top and bottom.
  • Stamp the sentiment onto a rounded label piece and attach to the front of the card as shown using a few Mini Dimensionals.
  • Punch out three 1/2″ circles (smaller blueberries) from the scrap piece in the kit, and attach them (one on a Dimensional) around the label.
  • Finally “fussy cut” four small leaf shapes from the leaf sticker sheet and attach around these blueberries.

Broadway Star June 2018 Paper Pumpkin Alternates

It’s finally time for me to share more ideas that I came up with using the contents of the June 2018 Paper Pumpkin kit! Here is what came in this past month’s kit, You Are My Anchor.

The June 2018 Broadway Star Paper Pumpkin kit…#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

Besides the gift bag & coordinating tag that I shared just over a week ago during the blog hop AND the exclusives that I shared privately with my personal subscribers on the 2nd, today I am sharing:

  • a celebratory cake topper
  • a Starbuck’s cookie straw gift
  • a 12×12 scrapbook page layout
  • a Christmas pocket photo page layout
  • a simple card using leftovers from the kit
  • and a fun z-fold “cake” card

Watch the video first to get to get measurements, directions, and tips. Then scroll down to see close-up photos, links for more information shared in the video, and a list of extra supplies (linked to my online store) mentioned or used to make my creations.

Here are the cards that the kit instructs how to make. The kit makes four of each of these. (I made one each. And then I used the remaining pieces of my kit to make all the rest of my projects shared today. Yep! I only used ONE kit for everything. And I still have several leftover pieces.)

A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop – Broadway Star

The June 2018 Broadway Star Paper Pumpkin kit…#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

I love that there is a whole suite of products in the 2018-19 Annual Catalog that was made to coordinate with this month’s kit. So I decided to create a gift bag and matching tag. I used the coordinating Broadway Bound designer paper, a couple other products from this coordinating suite, and pieces that would be left over if a person made all the cards in this Paper Pumpkin kit as is. A special thanks to Samantha Clayton at Mixed Up Craft for the inspiration for my bag.

First watch my how-to video, then scroll down to see the scoring & cutting measurements patterns, close-up photos, special links, and a list of products/supplies linked to where you can find them in my online store.

This is a project that was easier to explain in a video, but hopefully these images below with measurements are helpful to any of you wanting to print something off.
