Welcome to our monthly APPT blog hop to showcase our August 2024Time for CakePaper Pumpkin kit alternate projects! See what I have to share.
Then check out all the other blogs in the hop for additional creative ideas that my fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrator friends shared.*
For those of you not familiar with these kits, they get delivered straight to your mailbox in the months of your choice. Inside are all the supplies you need AND the directions for assembling the kit cards/projects designed. Here are the intended cards designed for this August 2024 kit. (Click here for a link to Stampin’ Up!’s how-to video.)
I’ve already shared some other alternate projects using the contents of this kit on August 23rd. Be sure to visit to see all the cards I was able to create with one set of supplies from each of the three kit cards.
Today my projects include three note cards, two fun fold cards, and a 12×12 scrapbook page layout. Lots of stuff, right? Usually I share this many projects with a how-to video. But I can’t fit that in this week. So I’m hoping that my tips and extra photos below will give you all enough information if you wish to recreate any of these. I did use a few extra products outside the actual kit. Those extra items are listed below and linked to where you can find them in my online store.
The great thing about these kits is that after you’ve used up all the consumables, you end up a great stamp sets and inks to keep on using. So let’s focus on the stamp set for these first three note cards. I’ve supplemented those stamps with many of the basic recommended Top Ten Crafting Essentials shown on pages 16 & 17 of the 2024-25 Annual Catalog and also added in the Layering Leaves Stamp Set, the Bough Punch, White Glimmer Paper, Iridescent Pearls, Every Celebration Dies, a Blender Pen and Wink of Stella.
For this first card, I fussy cut sticker scraps from the kit to get the outline of the “Hooray.” And then after adding this to the card put the tiny sticker pieces back in place using the Take Your Pick Tool
I stamped the balloons, and then used a ruler and pen (I had a fun green ball-point ink pen) to add the “strings.” Then I adhered the die-cut glitter word to finish it off. Cute and simple.
For the second one I masked the top and bottom of my Layering Leaves sentiment image, inked it up with Shaded Spruce ink, pulled the tape away and inked up the remaining top and bottom with the Granny Apple Green and Real Red inks to get the tri-color effect.
I created the candle flames with the stamped, punched out, and trimmed down leaves from the Layering Leaves set. After stamping them with Daffodil Delight ink, I used a Blender Pen to add more yellow color within. Then I added Wink of Stella for a bit of shimmer.
For the third notecard I used my Grid Paper as a guide to stamp the longest candle multiple times across the 2-1/4″ x 3-1/2″ piece of Basic White. I used all the remaining colors of ink spots in the Classic Assortment except the Basic Gray. And for the little “glow” image I used the Coastal Cabana color which was lightened by stamping onto scrap paper a couple times first.
My first of my two fun-fold cards is a bridge fold card. The measurements you’ll need are:
Night of Navy Cardstock: 8″ x 4-1/4″ scored in at each end at 1-1/4″ and 2-1/2″
Basic White cardstock (for the back): 2-3/4″ x 4″
Kit candle paper: four tall pieces 1″ x 3-3/4″, one short piece 1-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, and the center front piece 2-3/4″ x 3-3/4″
This photo below shows well where I got the all the pieces from the kit candle paper. The gaps are where the tall 1″ x 3-3/4″ pieces originated.
If you’ve never made a bridge fold card before, the video from my 10/24/17 blog post is a good one to watch. Be sure to stamp the pieces before attaching them. Here are lots of view of the finished card from the front, top, and back and then flattened down in both directions to fit inside an envelope.
The second fun-fold card has a bit more detail. First you’ll want to prepare more candle flames with the Layering Leaves set and Bough Punch. But this time stamp the “flames” in Wild Wheat to coordinate with the kit candle paper (the left over candle paper from the bridge fold card). Stamp this leaves image at least four times to get the 16 candle flames.
The measurements you’ll need for this card are:
Night of Navy Cardstock: 4-1/4″ x 10-3/4″ scored parallel to the short side at 1-1/4″ and 6-1/2″
Basic White cardstock (for the back): 4″ x 5″ for the inside layer
Kit candle paper: 1-7/8″ x 4″
Pink kit card base: 1-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ for the lower front “cake” and 1/2″ x 2-1/4″ flipped over for the sentiment strip
White Glimmer Paper: 3/4″ x 4-1/4″ scrap for die-cutting “frosting” and 9/16″ x 2-3/8″ for sentiment strip layer
Fold the Night of Navy card base into a “matchbook” fold, add the Basic White layer to the inside, and staple shut the bottom 1-1/4″ high flap (rough part of the staples to the front). Add the 1-7/8″ x 4″ kit candle paper to the bottom of the front flap of the card.
FYI…When designing this card I thought I made a mistake, because I initially cut my candle paper (that leftover piece from the last card) to 4″ wide. But then I realized it was a blessing in disguise. Because by using the two remaining scraps I was able to trim them up to overlap the ends and make the candles all within the borders of the card. Yay! So yes, now do that same thing.
Now attach the flames and the sentiment strip.
Adhere the pink “cake” flat to the bottom 1-1/4″ high stapled flap. Adhere the “frosting” with Dimensionals. Attach the pearls.
It’s so fun how the candles appear to be “in” the cake, right?! A matchbook fun-fold card is perfect for this. Now open the front flap…
…stamp the inside sentiment and adhere the tucked in fork.
Getting tired yet? Sorry…I just couldn’t stop creating with this fun kit!
Here is my last idea…my 12×12 scrapbook page layout.
The measurements you’ll need for this project are:
Basic White Cardstock: two sheets of 12″ x 12″
Night of Navy Cardstock: three that are 3-3/4″ x 5-1/2″ and six that are 3-3/4″ x 3-3/4″
Boho Blue Cardstock: <1/4″ x 11″ for the tall candle in the middle of the left page
Kit candle paper: 3-3/4″ x 5-3/4″ on the left page and then the rest of it to on the right page with the white area removed.
Kit “cake” card base: cut into two pieces
Cut the “cake” card in two pieces: 3″ x 5-1/2″ and 5-1/2″ 5-1/2″ and prepare all the other pieces described in the measurements above.
Stamp the long skinny Boho Blue strip to create a tall candle.
Position everything in place as shown and attach. I used a sticker from the kit for the Hooray, but you could die-cut this with the Every Celebration dies if you ran out of stickers. (The white piece under the Petal Pink tag is another tag flipped over.)
All of the Rose Gold cord is tacked down with rolled up kit glue dots. 🙂 Putzy, but worth it.

Gosh I love these kits! I received my August 2024 Time For Cake Paper Pumpkin kit on Monday and opened it up to find supplies for putting together some festive and fun birthday cards.
But I never assemble my kits as is, because I like to show kit recipients other ways to use their supplies. I like to think outside the box…see what else I can come up with, and create alternate cards, scrapbook pages and more. So today I’m sharing with you twelve cards that I made with the supplies of the three kit cards. Replicating this with all the supplies in your kit would allow you to quadruple the cards you can get from this kit.
What would you do with all these birthday/celebratory cards? If you don’t need a lot of birthday cards yourself, you can package them together in sets and give them as gifts! I show you how to make these cards in my 8/23/24 video.
Watch my videohere to get to get measurements, directions, and tips (or you can just click on this image below if you are already in my blog post). Scroll down to see close-up photos, access the links that I mentioned in my video, and see a list of extra supplies (linked to my online store) that I used to make my creations. Then be sure to visit my blog again soon, because I’ll have many more alternate projects that I’ll be sharing on soon!
I hope you enjoyed what I shared and gained some creative inspiration! Want to make the cards as intended? Click here for a link to Stampin’ Up!’s how-to video.
Below are close-up photos of the alternate projects I made and shared in my video. (Remember to watch my video first to get measurements, tips and directions.)
If you did not get this kit, I hope you can apply these ideas to products you already own. OR…become an active subscriber and get in on the refill kit. It doesn’t contain the ink and stamp images. But you will at least gain the main pieces and can hopefully replace most of the stamp images I used with some of your own.

My husband Tim, my son Luke and I went to the Minnesota State Fair yesterday. (This was one of our views on one of the rides! Do you see the ferris wheel off in the distance? It’s a huge fair…one of the top rated state fairs overall.)
It was opening day, and we went to see my nephew Robbie play bass drum in the big parade.
My sister (Rob’s mom) was a chaperone/parent volunteer and helped the kids out during the parade and when needed. But she had free time, too. So she joined us when there was free time. And despite the rain showers (that came down hard right before and during the parade), the weather during the rest of the day was quite pleasant.
When we first arrived, Tim and Luke had to ride the Skyscraper. (It’s now a tradition for them.) They ride it right away so they can eat whatever they want afterwards. Hahaha!
And yes…we definitely ate! That is one of the fun things about coming is trying out new and bizarre foods. Not everything we ate was new and bizarre though. I personally have a lot of sensitivities, so I don’t wander into that craziness like most people. In fact, I LOVE that many of my gluten free/dairy free favorites can be found. Yay for Nautical Bowls (and the awesome workers there that pose for a pic with us)!! The special “State Fair Bowl” menu item tasted great!
We tried lots of foods (a new favorite of mine is the French Meadow Bakery‘s Shroomy Calamari), shopped a lot, rode a couple rides, watched the parade, visited the livestock, and enjoyed people watching and the music around us. We’ll be back again!

What a beautiful kit! Did you get your hands on the July 2024 Painted Petals Paper Pumpkin kit!? Mine arrived on Saturday. So when I got home late on Sunday from my mini 4-day vacation in Walnut Grove MN, I started creating right away in my head. And then on Monday and Tuesday, I put together my first set of alternate projects that I’m excited to share with you today.
For those of you not familiar with these kits, they get delivered straight to your mailbox in the months of your choice. Inside are all the supplies you need AND the directions for assembling the kit cards/projects designed. Here are the intended cards designed for this July 2024 kit. (Click here for Stampin’ Up!’s how-to video to help you assemble these as intended.)
What are alternate projects? Well, I take the supplies from the kits and create other things…different cards and projects. This way I can show others how to stretch the kits in new ways. A kit that you may have not been a fan of might all of a sudden be more attractive (or a favorite) because of a new way of using the supplies!
Even if you didn’t get this kit, I hope the ideas I share can be applied to other products you own, and I hope what I share inspires your creativity!
Watch my video first by clicking here to get the measurements, directions, and tips (or you can just click on the image below if you are already in my blog post). Scroll down to see close-up photos, access the links that I mentioned in my video, and see a list of extra supplies (linked to my online store) that I used to make everything.

Today I’m sharing a few more ideas – alternate projects I created with the June 2024 Life Is SweetPaper Pumpkin kit. I love creating with kits and have a hard time putting them down sometimes. (I can’t always fit everything into two posts. And I guess that was the case for this June kit.) 😜
Click here to see my first set of alternate projects (along with a how-to video) that I shared on June 21st.
Click here to see the ideas I shared (and ideas from others in our blog hop) on Friday, July 9th.
Below is a list of extra products I used linked to where you can find them in my online store. If you missed out on getting this kit (or you want another), refill kits (those without the stamps and ink) are available those those who have an active Paper Pumpkin subscription. If you are not a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, I invite you to give it a try. CLICK HERE to learn more. CLICK HERE to sign up by July 10th for the next kit. 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored parallel to the short side at 4-1/4″
Solid pastel paper cut from kit envelopes
Pretty In Pink: 2″ x 4-1/4″
Shy Shamrock: a little over 1-1/2″ (1-9/16″) x 4-1/4″
Peach Pie: 2″ x 4-1/4″
Patterned pastel cardstock cut from kit cards
Pretty In Pink: a little over 1-1/2″ (1-9/16″) x 3-1/4″
Summer Splash: a little over 1-1/2″ (1-9/16″) x 3-1/4″
Peach Pie: a little over 1-1/2″ (1-9/16″) x 3-1/4″
I attached the top and bottom solid pastel paper layers first and then added the middle one. (If every layer is cut correctly, you will have the ability to slightly overlap that middle layer so no gaps are showing.) Then I added the patterned layers using Dimensionals starting with the middle first. I added the glittered “hello” with Dimensionals, tucked in and attached a couple light green leaves trimmed from one of the frames, and then added three Shy Shamrock Gems.
It’s a simple, clean, but pretty look. And that layout could be done with so many other products, too!
My other two ideas are open treat/gift boxes made from the envelopes in the kit.
Have you made these 3D containers before?
They are super simple and just require a little patience to form.
I scored and folded 3/4″ in from the bottom and each of the two sides of the envelopes. I folded back and forth in both directions to help get the creases flexible and easier to work with when forming the boxes. Then I put my fingers inside one of the envelopes to open it up and form the box. I pinched the bottom two corners to form triangles, folded them under, and glued them down underneath. I repeated this for the second envelope.
Next I used the tip of the Bronze Blends Marker and the cap to “flick” ink spots onto the front of the boxes. (Mask the inside if you wish so the splatters only land on the outside of the box.)
I then prepared the leaves by snipping a few light green ones from one of the kit frames. And I prepared the front layers using these measurements.
Measurements…
Early Espresso Cardstock
(2) 1-7/8″ x 4-1/4″
Kit card cardstock
(2) 1-3/4″ x 4-1/4″
I stamped the sentiment image on the kit card cardstock pieces and added them to the Early Espresso Cardstock pieces. Then I attached them to the box fronts while at the same time tucking and adhering a few leaves I had snipped earlier. (Sponging Multipurpose Glue onto the back sides is my favorite way to make them sticky.)
I added a twine bow to each box front using rolled up glue dots from the kit.
I then cut the dark green leaves in half lengthwise, added Multipurpose Glue to the back sides (with a sponge), connected them across the top back edges, and trimmed off the excess. Finally I added a few more light green leaves (as you can see) with Dimensionals under the tips and glue under the bases. So the leaves look like they are extending outward.
These open treat/gift boxes have lots of room inside! I was able to get a whole 6.74 oz bag of Dove chocolates into one of them! (The Dark Chocolate & Peanut Butter flavored ones match perfectly with the Peach Pie colored box.)
I’m sure I’ll be able to find Dove chocolates with wrappers to match the other box, too.
Here are all the projects! I hope I inspired your creativity with what I shared today! If you did not get this kit, I hope you can apply these ideas to products you already own.
If you are not a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, I invite you to give it a try. CLICK HERE to sign up by July 10th for this next kit.

#APaperPumpkinThing Welcome to our monthly APPT blog hop to showcase Paper Pumpkin kit alternate projects! This time we are highlighting the June 2024 Life Is SweetPaper Pumpkin kit. To follow the hop, check out what I have to share and then see other creative project ideas by clicking on the links below shared by the other hop participants. (If you are receiving this blog post by email, click HERE to see the hop.)
I’ve already shared my first set of alternate projects on June 21st. Click here to check out those ideas and watch my how-to video. Today’s projects (cards and scrapbook pages) show very simple and easy ways to alter the kit contents.
I started by creating three cards from the supplies of one of the kit cards simply by adding Basic Black card bases – each 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ folded in half at 4-1/4″. After doing that with one of the kit cards, I decided to do that with the other kit cards. I tripled the cards you can get from the kit (I LOVE doing this sort of thing). But I did it in such a way that you can still make some of these even if you don’t have a full set of all three kit cards left to create with. In other words, those subscribers who loved and assembled all of one or two of the kit card designs as instructed, but didn’t really want to make what was left over can still use these ideas to change up the card/s from the kit that they didn’t like as much.
Here are the intended cards designed for this June 2024 Life Is Sweet Paper Pumpkin kit. (Click here for Stampin’ Up!’s how-to video to help you assemble these as intended.)
Here are the 3 cards I made with the pieces that make up the “cherries/miss you” card.
All layers are either 4″ x 5-1/4″ or 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″.
Here are the 3 cards I made with the pieces that make up the “peaches/hello” card.
All layers are 4″ x 5-1/4″, 3″ x 5-1/4″, 1-1/4″ x 5-1/4″, or 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″.
To make the frame of leaves look is does on the landscape card, I cut here,…
…added it to the vellum which I trimmed into three pieces (the first two are 2-1/4″ wide and 3/4″ wide),…
…and then placed them on the card base this way. (The other piece I trimmed a bit before finishing the other cards.)
Here are the 3 cards I made with the pieces that make up the “lemon/congrats” card.
All layers are either 4″ x 5-1/4″, 2-1/8″ x 5-1/2″, or 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″.
To get the leaves to look a bit different on the front of the pink card, I made a cut and rearranged the piece a bit.
After making these simple eye-catching cards, I decided I would share how simple and eye-catching scrapbooking could be too. So I put together three more projects…two single 12×12 photo/scrapbook pages and one 12×12 photo/scrapbook page layout. Each Basic Black photo mat measures the same as the main layer (and the same as a folded card)…4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. If you develop photos in true digital format, they are usually 4″ x 5-3/4″. So using this size photo with a 1/4″ trimmed off one end (or 1/8″ trimmed off each end) would fit perfectly.
Isn’t it fun to see how page making can be just as easy at card making?! If you’ve always been interested in trying scrapbooking but have been intimidated, I hope these ideas made you feel more at ease.
I hope I inspired your creativity with what I shared today! If you did not get this kit, I hope you can apply these ideas to products you already own.
