Toil & Trouble Last-Minute Idea

If you need a last-minute, super-simple Halloween gift idea, and you have some simple boxes, a festive treat, and some Halloween-themed paper crafting products, here is a quick way to pull it all together. Wrap the sides of the box with a strip of designer paper, enclose the goodies & tie it up with a coordinating ribbon, then add a festive message as a tag. Below are some treat boxes I made in no time flat with these simple decoration steps. Here are my specific measurements and directions for decorating these fun Baker’s Boxes (from the 2018 Holiday catalog).

Products:  See below for a full list of supplies linked to where you can find them in my online store.

An easy last-minute Halloween gift idea that I put together with the Toil & Trouble designer paper, some coordinating cardstock and glimmer paper, the Spooky Sweets stamp set, some circle punches, fun ribbons, and a few Baker’s Boxes!…#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

Measurements…

  • Toil & Trouble Designer Paper
    • 12″ x 1-1/4″
    • 6″ x 1-1/4″
  • Ribbon
    • 27″ (or less if just tying a knot)
  • Whisper White Cardstock
    • Scrap for stamping and punching 1-1/4″ circle sentiment
  • Glimmer Paper
    • Scrap for punching 1-1/2″ circle
  • Coordinating Cardstock
    • Scrap for punching 1-3/4″ circle

Directions:

  • Use Tear & Tape adhesive to connect the two 1-1/4″ wide designer paper strips to make one long strip.
  • Wrap this paper strip around the box and secure with Tear & Tape adhesive. (I made sure that my main seam was in the back, but there WILL be two seams. So you may want to adjust where you place your designer paper if you are picky about where your seams end up.)
  • After filling the box, tie on coordinating ribbon.
  • Stamp the sentiment, then punch the various size circles from the cardstock and glimmer paper. Here are the colors I matched with the designer paper patterns:
    • Purple striped pattern – Gorgeous Grape Cardstock and Silver Glimmer Paper
    • Stars pattern – Basic Black Cardstock and Copper Glimmer Paper (from the Joyous Noel collection)
    • Jumping frogs pattern – Granny Apple Green Cardstock and Gold Glimmer Paper
  • Then usingTear & Tape adhesive layer together so they are off-center from each other, and attach to the top of the  box.

Halloween Slide Out Pocket Fun Folds

On September 29th I shared a fun fold card with a pocket inside that slides out when you open it – great for holding gift cards, cash, or any other flat gift. Click here to see that card, a couple other versions of it, and to watch my tutorial video for making it.

With Halloween just a little over a couple weeks away (which of course means there is still time to purchase any needed products and whip some cards together!), I thought I’d share two more versions of this fun fold card that I created with the Toil & Trouble Designer Paper and some coordinating products from the 2018 Holiday Catalog.

Products:  See below for a full list of supplies linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Here is my first Halloween version of this fun fold card.

To get the web look in the background, I adhered four web die-cuts from the Cauldron Framelits Dies collection just under the witch. (I cut them from Black Foil Sheets scraps to get that shiny black look.) Then I added the witch – another image that I die-cut using the Cauldron Framelits from a printed sheet of the Toil & Trouble designer paper. You can also stamp and then die-cut this witch. The images in the Cauldron Bubble stamp set coordinate with the dies. But I just used the dies with the coordinating image from the designer paper. In fact there are several images in this designer paper that coordinate with the dies. Too fun! And it makes card making that much faster.

Be sure to watch the video for directions for putting together this fun fold card. It’s easier than it looks!

Measurements for this card…

  • Basic Black Cardstock
    • 4-1/4” x 11” scored at 2” at one end & 3-1/2” at the other end
  • Whisper White Cardstock
    • 7” x 3-1/2” scored at ½” at one end & 2” at the other end
  • Toil & Trouble Designer Series Paper
    • piece for die-cutting the witch
    • 4” x 1-3/4”
  • Black Foil Sheets:
    • Scraps for die-cutting four webs.
  • Basic Black Shimmer Ribbon:

OH! Something fun that you can do on a card like this is stamp an inside image or sentiment on the front of the pocket so that it gradually appears as the card opens.

Here is the second Halloween version of this fun fold card that I created. Can you tell I am crazy about that Black Organdy Glitter Ribbon!? Just like the witch, the kitty image is die-cut from the same designer paper with a die from the same set of dies. The sentiments on both cards come from the Spooky Sweets stamp set.

Ever tie your knot or bow on the inside of your card? It is sometimes difficult from lack of space (or in this case unnecessary) to have the bow or knot on the front/outside of the card. Plus it adds a little pizzazz if you can just bring it around to the inside.

Measurements for this card…

  • Basic Black Cardstock
    • 4-1/4” x 11” scored at 2” at one end & 3-1/2” at the other end
    • Scrap for punching the Starburst circle layer.
  • Whisper White Cardstock
    • 7” x 3-1/2” scored at ½” at one end & 2” at the other end
    • Scrap for stamping and punching the 2″ Circle piece.
  • Toil & Trouble Designer Series Paper
    • 4” x 3-1/4”
    • 4” x 1-3/4”
    • piece for die-cutting the cat
  • Basic Black Shimmer Ribbon:
    • Two pieces 13” each

So of course, my box and card needed some Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon and a touch of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock. And the Cat Punch was a given. Right?!

The September 2018 Paper Pumpkin Kit: Frights & Delights! …#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

This kit was the perfect one for Halloween enthusiasts. The stamp images, stickers and other kit elements put together per the kit directions made 24 of these adorable treat bags. Click here to see the September 2018 kit video put out by Stampin’ Up! where you can view how to make these bags as intended.

Halloween is one of my husband’s favorite time of year. I remember before we had kids we had high hopes of decorating elaborately and hosting a grand Halloween party every year. It hasn’t happened yet. But who knows…maybe someday.

So this came to mind when I saw this kit…fun party invites! I haven’t shown this idea to my husband yet, but what do you think? Would you come if you got this invitation in the mail? 😉

If you wish to recreate this z-fold card with your kit contents, follow the measurements and directions below.

Measurements of extra products:

  • Whisper White Cardstock:
    • 8-1/2 x 11 printed on from a document you set up on your computer, then cut to 4″ x 5-1/4″
  • Basic Black Cardstock:
    • 11″ x 4-1/4″ scored at 2-3/4″ and 5-1/2″
    • Three 4″ long strips torn on the top edge (my strips are 4″ wide x about 1″ tall)
  • Gorgeous Grape Cardstock:
    • 4″ x 5-1/4″

Extra Stampin’ Up! Products I Used:  See below for a full list of extra supplies linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Directions:

  • Color the white side of the silver pumpkin backing layer with the Dark Basic Black Blends marker. Then attach to pumpkin (the white side up) using Dimensions cut in half.
  • Add small rhinestones in the eyes. Set aside.
  • Layer torn strips together to create a “ground” for the cemetery.
  • Cut bag label at the score line and stamp images on the white side to create a tombstone look.
  • Attach ground and tombstone, then adhere to the Gorgeous Grape cardstock about 1″ up from the bottom.
  • Stamp sentiment in the bottom right corner.
  • Attach pumpkin with SNAIL and bat with a Dimensional.
  • Fold card base into a “z-fold” and attach Gorgeous Grape layer (adhesive just on the back of the top half) and the printed Whisper White layer. Then add the “spooky” sticker.

Even if you aren’t planning to host a party, this card layout is still a fun one to send to a friend. Just turn it into a Happy Halloween card or a birthday card for someone with a late October birthday.

If you do plan to decorate to get into the Halloween spirit, another idea I had was to attach the kit characters to the inside of lamp shades. How fun is this?

Notice the spider webs on the top of the lamp? I planned that!

Spooky Sweets Gusseted Bag/Box

Here is another one of the four make-n-takes featuring new 2018 Holiday Catalog products that my Stampers With ART Stars made during the last Online Team Event on August 22nd. This one is a gusseted bag/box (or at least that’s what I’m calling it) decorated up with the Toil & Trouble Designer Paper and images from the Spooky Sweets Stamp Set. The box part inside has only four sides, but the bag makes up for the other two.

Here are the fronts of the two versions I made.

And here are a couple angled shots. You can really fit a lot of candy in these!

Here are the details if you wish to make one (or more!) yourself.

Measurements:

  • Basic Black Cardstock:
    • two pieces 2-3/4″ x 5-1/2″ each scored at 2-3/4″ and 4-3/4″
    • scrap for punching out bats
  • Whisper White Cardstock:
    • scrap for stamping & punching out bats
    • scrap for stamping & punching out sentiment
  • Crushed Curry Cardstock: scrap for punching out scallop circle
  • Toil & Trouble Designer Paper:
    • 2-3/8″ x 2-3/8″
    • scrap with a coordinating hat

Products: See below for a full list of supplies linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Directions:

  • After cutting and scoring both pieces of Basic Black, fold on the score lines and connect together to form the four sided box. The beauty of this is it can flatten so it’s easy to add into the bag later AND it can be easily be decorated.
  • Stamp the sentiment onto Whisper White scrap. Punch this out with 1-1/4″ Circle Punch. Punch 1-3/8″ Scallop Circle from Crushed Curry scrap. Layer together, add a Dimensional on the back, and set aside.
  • Stamp the bats onto the other Whisper White scrap. Punch these out with the Spooky Bats Punch.
  • Die-cut a hat from the pre-printed hat pattern in the pack of designer paper. Add the hat and bats onto the back side of the box. Use Dimensionals if you wish.
  • Punch out another set of bats from the Basic Black scrap. Attach the smallest on to the Library clip using a Glue Dot. Attach the other two and the layered sentiment piece to the 2-3/8″ x 2-3/8″ designer paper. (To get the look of 3 bats, cut one bat in half and just add the wings coming in from the sides. Trim off any excess.)
  • Then attach this designer paper to the front of the box.

  • Place it inside the gusseted bag adding the treats within as you slide it inside the bag.
  • Close and fold over the top section of the bag. Clip shut. And wait to give it to that special trick-or-treater on Halloween.
