Friends of a Feather October 2018 Paper Pumpkin Alternates

My October 2018 Paper Pumpkin kit arrived a few days ago, and I started creating with it right away! (Don’t expect that from me every month. I just happened to have time to play with it right away this time. LOL) I already shared one of these projects, my Get Well Monster Gift Pouch on Thursday with the promise to share more details today on how to make it. So today I present to you that fun project idea and a few more that I created so far with my Friends of a Feather October 2018 Paper Pumpkin kit:

  • two alternate cards
  • one with a coordinating gift box
  • a get well monster treat/gift pouch
  • and a tea light luminary

Here is what came in this kit.

And then I just added the supplies/products listed below to create the projects that I made that I’m sharing with you today. Watch my video first to get to get measurements, directions, and tips. Then scroll down to see close-up photos, links that I mention at the beginning of my video, and a list of extra supplies (linked to my online store) mentioned or used to make my creations.

Here are the cards that the October 2018 kit instructs how to make.

Tiny Jack-O-Lantern Takeout Boxes

We have an fabulous set of dies in our new 2018 Holiday Catalog called Takeout Thinlits. One die in the set (cut two times) creates an adorable little treat box that is sized to 2-1/8″ x 1-3/4″ x 2″ tall (5.4 x 4.4 x 5.1 cm), and it looks like a mini Chinese takeout box.

Takeout Box Dies – New in the 2018 Holiday Catalog …#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

After seeing a super cute Frankenstein version of this box created & shared by Jacque Williams while on the Alaskan cruise incentive trip by Stampin’ Up! this summer,…

…I decided to try making another Halloween character. And with the help of the Spooky Bats Punch, I came up with this fun little Jack-o-lantern!

Here are the details if you wish to make one (or more!) yourself.

Measurements:

  • Pumpkin Pie Cardstock: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
  • Basic Black Cardstock: small scrap for punching out bats
  • Garden Green Cardstock: small scrap for punching out bats
  • Basic Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon: ~5″

Products: See below for a full list of supplies linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Directions:

  • Die-cut the box die two times and assemble the box by first overlapping then connecting the bases with Tear & Tape Adhesive. Put a small strip of Tear & Tape on each of the four tabs. Pull up the sides and connect them together with the tabs. Shut the top side flaps, then shut the top main flaps by sliding them together.
  • Sponge the edges of the box with Pumpkin Pie ink.
  • Punch out the leaves, curl them a bit with the Bone Folder, and add to the top of the box (on the flap closest to the side that will become the front) with a Glue Dot.
  • Tie the ribbon in a knot. Then add this with a Glue Dot on top of the Glue Dot of the leaves. Trim the ends.
  • Punch out the bats. Then insert the punch again onto the side to punch just the scallop edge of the medium bat. Shift it up, and punch this scallop edge again about an 1/8″ from where you first punched. This will be the Jack-o-lantern’s mouth! 🙂
  • Now use your Paper Snips to trim the largest bat into five sections as shown below. The two outer pieces will be the eyes, and the middle one will be the nose! (Cute, huh?! I’m pretty proud of myself. LOL)

Click here to see how I made an adorable jack-o-lantern face with the Spooky Bats Punch - new in the 2018 Holiday Catalog…#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

  • Attach these to the front of the box using Glue Dots and/or Fine Tip Glue.
  • Fill with a Halloween or harvest treat and gift to someone special.

Here are just a few of the pumpkins I made. Amazing how just moving the pieces makes the face look so different.

I also used this punch art for the faces on a couple other treats that I shared on September 6th.

These takeout treat boxes were one of the four make-n-takes featuring new 2018 Holiday Catalog products that my Stampers With ART Stars made during the last Online Team Event on August 22nd. We sure have fun in our group! I demonstrate these projects for them during that event by broadcasting live in our Facebook group. That way those that get the supplies from me and want to make them along with me can.

Did you see the other make-n-take that I shared on September 9th? The other two of the four I’ll share soon.

I also shared about our new house guest on September 9th…On a “spur of the moment” decision to help our neighbors, we took in their cat on Saturday evening to “foster it” until they could find someone who would want him. Well, the boys and I were thrilled that 24 hours later my husband announced that he was on board with the idea of keeping Riff Raff for good, too!

He’s here to stay!…stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

So right away I went out and got a few things to make our new family member feel more at home.

He’s here to stay!…stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

Our new, almost-three-year-old cat is a sweetheart and has taken to our house with no problem. We plan to give him a new name (our neighbors said that would be fine, and they are thrilled that we have him for good), but we haven’t decided on one yet. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Thankful For All The Good Things

I am feeling VERY thankful these days. We finished off the summer with a wonderful vacation at the lake (my parents’ place). School began this last week. The boys are so far enjoying their new school year coming home happy each day (Luke is in 6th grade and Nick is in 7th). And… as of last evening we now have this sweet kitty staying with us. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision made literally yesterday afternoon to help out our friends. We aren’t sure if he is staying yet. The goal was to get a dog. But at least Riff Raff has a place to call home for awhile.

Simply Thankful for All the Good Things…#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

So I decided today would be a great day to share this card – one of four make-n-takes featuring new 2018 Holiday Catalog products that my Stampers With ART Stars made during the last Online Team Event on August 22nd. I was actually inspired by the card on p. 42 in the catalog. My design is very similar.

Simply Thankful for All the Good Things card created with Country Home stamp set and Country Lane Designer Paper from the 2018 Holiday Catalog AND Stampin’ Blends markers. Click here for directions, measurements and supplies…#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

Here are the details if you wish to recreate it.

Measurements:

  • Early Espresso Cardstock: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
  • Blackberry Bliss Cardstock: 4″ x 9″ scored at 5-1/4″
  • Mint Macaron Cardstock: 4-3/4″ x 3-1/2″ (for the inside) and 1-5/8″ x 4″ (or less)
  • Whisper White Thick Cardstock: scrap that is 2-1/2″ x 5
  • Country Lane Designer Paper: 2″ x 4″ (be sure that the Mint Macaron floral design on the back of the Blackberry Bliss design is cut so that the flowers are vertical)

Products: See below for a full list of supplies linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Directions:

  • Punch 2-1/4″ circle from one half of Whisper White cardstock.
  • Stamp sentiment on the right side of the Mint Macaron strip, stamp the watering can on the circle, and stamp the flower image on the remaining scrap of Whisper White. Color watering can and flower images with Blends markers.
  • Fussy cut the flowers image, then attach with SNAIL adhesive to the top of the watering can as shown.
  • Add a small strip of Chicken Wire Elements coming out the back bottom of the sentiment strip.
  • Fold the Blackberry Bliss piece, run a strip of SNAIL down the right edge of the front short layer, then add the designer paper on top to extend the card base to meet up with the edges of the bottom layer.  Put SNAIL under this bottom layer and add to the Early Espresso piece.
  • Open up the Blackberry Bliss card base piece, and add the 4-3/4″ x 3-1/2″ Mint Macaron layer. Notice that the flip side of the designer paper now shows the floral Mint Macaron design.
  • Add the sentiment strip to the front of the card using SNAIL. Then attach the Whisper White piece to the left of that using Dimensionals.

Limited Time Blended Seasons

There is only a week left to get your hands on the exclusive Blended Seasons stamp set & coordinating Stitched Seasons framelits. I used that beautiful stamp set on my three cards that I shared on August 4th. If you subscribe to my blog posts, you may have seen them already. Here is a slight variation of those cards. On this one shown below I colored the leaves with the new Crushed Curry and Granny Apple Green Watercolor Pencils. I love those colors together! And I changed out the accessories and layout.

  • Basic Black Cardstock: 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″
  • Whisper White Cardstock: 2-3/8″ x 2-3/8″ & 2-3/4″ x 4″ for the inside layer
  • Linen Thread: 30″
  • Whisper White Polka-Dot Tulle Ribbon: 4″

Products:  See below for a full list of supplies linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Directions:

  • Use coordinating ink on the closed card base to stamp the leaves from the upper left to the lower right. Open the card and stamp the leaves in the lower left corner.
  • While the card is open, add the inside white layer.
  • Now work on the front layer of the card…wrap the Linen Thread three times around and tie in a knot. Then lay the Polka-Dot ribbon across the knot and tie the twine into a knot again to secure the ribbon.
  • Using the StazOn Jet Black ink stamp leaves and sentiment on the smaller Whisper White piece. Color the leaves with Granny Apple Green and Crushed Curry Watercolor Pencils. Use the Blender Pen to blend and soften the color on the leaves. Practice on scrap paper if you’d like.
  • Attach this white layer to the black layer.
  • Put Dimensionals on the back side. And stick this layer down on the card so that the tulle ribbon peeks out the left side of the layer.
  • Add a few pearls.

Blended Seasons, Ink Pads & A Blender Pen

I got to play with my Blended Seasons stamp set yesterday. And this time I decided to show how awesome having a Blender Pen can be with our Classic Ink Pads. You can squeeze a closed Classic Ink Pad together to get ink on the inside of the lid. And then just dip a Blender Pen into the ink puddle to pick up the ink and color with it. That’s how I colored these leaves on the white layers of the cards below.

I just needed one Classic ink pad, its coordinating cardstock (along with Whisper White & Basic Black cardstock), the StazOn Jet Black ink, and the Blender Pen to build the color on each card.

Here are the details for making the cards.

  • Basic Black Cardstock: 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″
  • Whisper White Cardstock: 2-5/8″ x 2-5/8″ & 2-3/4″ x 4″ for the inside layer
  • Basic Black Twine: 36″

And how fun that all you need is a Blender Pen to create a coordinating coloring tool with any Classic Ink Pad! So go ahead and pick your new favorite color ink pad, squeeze the lid, and color away. 🙂

Painted Harvest Card I CASEd & Had to Share

CASEd is a term many of us use in the paper crafting world. It stands for Copy And Share Everything. So when we like a project design by another and we either completely copy it or change it only slightly and make a version of it, we let others know that we did that by saying that we “CASEd it from so-and-so.”

I saw a card shared in a Facebook group I am a part of called Demonstrator Planning Group. It’s a group for Stampin’ Up! demonstrators, and it’s an amazing place to get inspiration. I could be on it all day everyday and still not see everything, because people are posting ideas there non-stop.

A couple months back I found a card, took a screen shot of it on my phone, changed it up only slightly (because I didn’t have enough of the lace ribbon), and reproduced it as a welcome card to new members in our Stampers With ART group. Thank you Chris Smith for creating and sharing your beautiful card that I just HAD to CASE! Click here to see Chris’ gorgeous card. (Too bad I didn’t have enough ribbon at the time. I would have CASEd it completely!)

Here is my version.

Card I CASEd & Had to Share. It’s made with the Painted Harvest stamp set and the Painted Autumn designer paper...#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

Measurements:

  • Very Vanilla Thick Cardstock: 11″ x 4-1/4″ folded at 5-1/2″ for the card base
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock: 5-1/4″ x 4″ and scrap for stamping and punching the sentiment and the leaves
  • Basic Gray Cardstock: 8″ long scrap for punching a border
  • Silver Foil Paper: scrap for die-cutting a 2-1/8″ circle
  • Painted Autumn Designer Paper (tiny green leaf pattern): 2″ x 4″

Tips/Directions:

  • Stamp the sentiment in Basic Gray ink and the leaves in Old Olive ink onto the Very Vanilla scrap/s.
  • Punch out the sentiment using the 2″ Circle Punch and the leaves with the Leaf Punch.
  • Die-cut the Silver Foil Paper using the 2-1/8″ diameter die from the Layering Circle Framelits.
  • Punch the 8″ length of Basic Gray Cardstock with the Decorative Ribbon Border Punch. Trim this into two 4″ pieces. Then put adhesive on the back side top and bottom edges of the designer paper, and attach these two gray strips so they are peeking out the top and bottom of the designer paper as shown.

Card I CASEd & Had to Share. It’s made with the Painted Harvest stamp set and the Painted Autumn designer paper...#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

  • Now adhere this to the 5-1/4″ x 4″ Very Vanilla piece.
  • Add a single strip of silver washi tape from the Year of Cheer Washi Tape collection to the top edge of the designer paper. Trim the excess off the ends or better yet…wrap the excess on the ends around to the back side of the 5-1/4″ x 4″ Very Vanilla piece.
  • Attach the sentiment circle to the Very Vanilla circle, then add this to the card with Dimensionals while at the same time tucking in and attaching the punched out leaves.
  • Stamp the inside of the Very Vanilla card base piece, then adhere the 5-1/4″ x 4″ Very Vanilla piece to the front of the card.

Card I CASEd & Had to Share. It’s made with the Painted Harvest stamp set and the Painted Autumn designer paper...#stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

This is another version…same card, but with a different sentiment (from a stamp set that us demonstrators were able to get years back). This is the welcome card I sent out to a few new stampers to our Stampers With ART group. So if you plan to sign up this month and want this as your welcome card, be sure to let me know since these papers will be retiring soon. 😉 OH! Yes…did you see the sale?
