I’m still in holiday/vacation mode. So please forgive me… instead of sharing a creative project, my post today is more of personal/family news post filled with photos from our Christmas 2024.
Overall we had wonderful December. Some virus or bug got us all sick for the first part of the month. But it wasn’t COVID and it was fairly mild for everyone (except me… I had to go on antibiotics eventually, even lost my voice for a few days). But that was the only negative that I can think of.
Early in the month we decorated outside. My husband Tim put up all of our Christmas lights along the roofline of the house and around our bushes and fence. And a few days later, our oldest Nick put up the lawn ornaments on his own for the first time (two reindeer, a snowman, and a few candy canes). We of course decorated on the inside, too. We have a fairly new narrow, pre-lit, artificial tree. Tim assembled it, and I decorated it. I really appreciate this tree since I’m the one that used to always put on the lights (I was picky and didn’t like the cords showing). I do miss the smell of a real tree. We had one one year. And that’s what my family always got when I was a kid. But our living room area in our current home is super small. So narrow artificial trees works best. I took this photo Christmas morning.
I’ve been collecting Dept 56 North Pole Village pieces since before our boys were babies. So that also gets put up every year. Luke our youngest helped me with that this year. I’d love more pieces, but we don’t have much more space as you can see.
Then we decorate a few other areas of our house. We have a fairly large sleigh that we fill with Christmas books, a few snow-themed bath towels, our Christmas gnomes (we got this one in Norway), and a few other must-haves. We don’t get too crazy, but we DO love the holiday and like to add a touch of cheer here and there. I always tell my husband it’s a good thing I work otherwise this house would be filled wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor with Christmas decor.
We recently remodeled our main level of our home. In years past we used to display all of our Christmas cards on our closet doors near the entryway. But tape doesn’t stick to our new doors. So now we tape our cards up on our large cupboard area by the coffee bar. It’s so beautiful to see all of them at once. And of course since I know a lot of paper crafters, you’ll see a LOT of handmade cards up there!
We also like to get creative in the kitchen. Luke had his friend Calli over to build & decorate gingerbread houses this year.
I picked up a couple kits from Target – the beach house and donut shop. But they combined pieces to make two beach huts and had fun getting silly with their designs.
I also took a day to bake. I made Mint Surprises, Peppermint Cake Cookies (below), Fudge (well, I actually thawed some that I froze from last year), and 3 loaves of Banana Bread because we had a bunch of ripe bananas laying around.
We celebrated with my husband’s side of the family down in southern Minnesota on Saturday, the 21st. We played a couple games, opened gifts, and enjoyed food and conversation together. Here is Nick and cousin Lydia playing a speed game of Rock, Paper, Scissors that involved two teams jumping and trying to reach the end of a red and green path. It was fun to watch. I did NOT play. Hahaha!
And here are a couple photos I took during the gift opening.
On Christmas Eve we went to my brother’s house in Minneapolis. They moved into this house fairly recently, so this was only the second time we had been there. It was a nice relaxed evening with LOTS to eat and fun conversations.
And then on the evening of Christmas day, we hosted my side of the family. My sister’s family couldn’t join us the night before. So it was nice to have everyone together this last night. We had even more fabulous food and lots of Christmas cookies since my mom and sister also added to the choices. (I’m full just thinking about it all!) A few ventured downstairs to play darts for part of the evening. And of course we took time to open gifts to each other.
One other highlight was taking photos. My nephew Joe took this one of me, my siblings, and our parents before opening gifts.
And after my brother’s family left (they couldn’t stay as late because they have the younger girls that needed to get to bed), we decided to get a couple family photos. This is my sister’s family.
And then my sister took this photo for us.
I’m feeling very blessed this season. I hope you had a blessed and cheerful December & holiday season as well.

Attention scrapbookers & wanna-be scrapbookers! I’ve added in another Online Paper Crafting Class today. And I’d like to invite you to join in. Today I’m sharing three alternate page layouts that I designed using the contents of the Reindeer Memories Scrapbooking Workshop Kit.
I wanted a bit more contrasting color in my layouts than the kit layouts had. So I added in some extra cardstock: White Willow & Real Red (already in the kit, but wanted more) and Early Espresso and I came up with three different page layouts. You can certainly follow the kit directions and recreate the intended pages. But with my designs I’m sharing today, you have other options.
Other than the extra cardstock, all the consumable supplies came from this kit.
Watch my videohere to get measurements, step-by-step directions, and tips for creating these layouts with this kit. Or you can just click on this image below if you are already in my blog post. (If you are catching this post right away, you might even be able to join in on the Live broadcast taking place at 10 AM Central Time.)
I’m planning my next Online Paper Crafting Classes to be:
Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 11 AMCentral Time
Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11 AM Central Time

Welcome to our monthly “A Paper Pumpkin Thing” blog hop! It’s time to showcase our November 2024Filled With JoyPaper Pumpkin kit alternate projects! See what I have to share. Then check out all the other blogs in the hop for additional creative ideas that my Stampin’ Up! demonstrator friends shared.
For those of you not familiar with these kits, they get delivered straight to your mailbox in the months of your choice. Inside are all the supplies you need AND the directions for assembling the kit cards/projects designed. Here are the intended projects designed for this November 2024 kit. (Click here for Stampin’ Up!’s how-to video to help you assemble these as intended.)
I’ve already shared some other alternate projects using the contents of this kit on November 20th: alternate cards and a few ideas of what to do with the stockings. Today I am sharing: a scrapbook page layout, a simple ornament card, and a poinsettia embellished stocking.
Below are close-up photos of these projects, any important measurements you might need, and tips for recreating what I shared. At the bottom of the post is a list of extra products that I’ve used linked to my online store.
Scrapbook Page Layout
This fun layout features Santa’s boots as he is heading down the chimney! It’s a fairly easy layout to put together.
Measurements:
Night of Navy Cardstock (from the Neutrals 12×12 pack)
(2) 12″ x 12″ for the base pages
(2) 3-7/8″ x 5-7/8″ for the front photo mats (optional as these represent the actual photos)
(4) 2-7/8″ x 3-7/8″ for the front photo mats (optional as these represent the actual photos)
White Willow Cardstock
(2) 3″ x 12″ to tear for the back layers of snow on the roof
(2) 2-1/2″ x 12″ to tear for the front layers of snow on the roof
1-3/4″ x 3-1/2″ for the journalling piece
4″ x 8″ for the base of the chimney
Scrap for stamping and fussy-cutting the “Magical Moments” words
(2) 4″ x 6″ for the middle photo mats
(4) 3″ x 4″ for the middle photo mats
Smoky Slate Cardstock (from the Neutrals 12×12 pack)
(7-9) 1-1/4″ x 3-5/8″
Misty Moonlight Cardstock (from the Neutrals 12×12 pack)
1-7/8″ x 3-5/8″ for the journalling piece
(2) 4-1/8″ x 6-1/8″ for the bottom photo mats
(4) 3-1/8″ x 4-1/8″ for the bottom photo mats
Cherry Cobbler & Gold Ribbon
(2) 14″ as a border to the bottom of the page
7″ or 8″ for tying the bow
Santa’s boots were probably the most challenging for me since I’m not skilled with fabric arts. I tried three different ways…First I tried coloring the fabric with Sharpie® Marker. The ink rubbed off even a day later. Then I tried coloring our Stampin’ Write Markers, but I was worried about how much ink the fabric was soaking up and how my marker tip was getting roughed up. And though the results weren’t as bad as the Sharpie, the dried ink was still coming off a tiny bit when I rubbed the fabric against paper. So I finally dyed the fabric with Rit® Fabric Dye. Don’t ask me the details, though because again…I’m not an expert and probably could’ve gotten better results. My boots turned out sort of a reddish black. You can see the comparison below of a stocking colored with the Basic Black Dark Blends and a stocking colored with Black Rit Dye.
After the “boots” dried, I folded the cuffs as shown and then ironed them as flat as I could.
For the chimney, I embossed the Smoky Slate rectangles with the Painted Texture embossing folder (which is now on the Last Chance List), and used a Blending Brush to rub on Smoky Slate ink to deepen the look of the bricks…make them more weathered and dirty.
Then I added one towards the top right of my White Willow chimney base and built my brick pattern from there trimming off any excess Smoky Slate Cardstock that would go off the edges.
I cut my chimney in half and then arranged all my pieces (including my base photo mats) onto the 12×12 base pages. Then I stamped my snowflakes randomly with VersaMark ink, took all the layers off my pages, added white embossing powder to the snowflakes, and heat embossed.
After all my snowflakes were embossed, I prepared all my other stamped pieces and added the ribbon borders along the bottom of the front snow layers with a bit of Tear & Tape Adhesive (tucking the excess around the back).
Then I added my back layers of snow with Dimensionals, my front layers of snow with Dimensionals, my chimney halves with a couple layers of Dimensionals just on the back middle and with one layer of Dimensionals just under the back bottom, and then my boots with Tear & Tape. The boots will raise the top half of the chimney. This is why you don’t need Dimensionals in that area.
The last steps are just adding the bow, the Iridescent Faceted Gems within the snowflake centers, and adding photos and journalling!
Oh! And if coloring the stockings isn’t your thing either, you could always skip that step and pretend that Santa lost his boots before heading inside.
Simple Ornament Card
This card design was inspired by a card I got from Stampin’ Up! I loved it so much and knew it would work with the elements of this kit. I stamped Basic Beige ink for my sentiments and borders on my Basic Beige card base (which is 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″). Then I attached the ornament top to the ornament with Glue Dots and added it to the card with Dimensionals. I die-cut a couple Shaded Spruce leaf images from the Merry Tags & More Dies and glued them down behind the left side of the ornaments. Then I added a few Blooming Pearls.
(Here is the card I got from Stampin’ Up! Pretty, right?!)
Poinsettia Embellished Stocking
This last idea was inspired by a project shared by Kimberly Wynne Jones in the Paper Pumpkin Fan Club. I didn’t have any actual poinsettia dies, so I used the dies from the Happy Hibiscus Hybrid Embossing Folder set (and embossing folder and die set) to die-cut different size leaves from the Festive Glimmer papers. Then I used Glue Dots and Dimensionals to build the poinsettia. I added a Gold Blooming Pearl in the middle (although I think I should’ve added a few more to make it look more like a poinsettia), and I attached it to my stocking with more Glue Dots. A hot glue gun might have been a more permanent adhesive for this project. But I was in a hurry when I was making it.
If you did not get this kit, I hope you can apply these ideas to products you already own. OR…become an active subscriber and get in on the refill kit. (The refill typically shows up in the online store soon after the 20th.) It doesn’t contain the ink and stamp images. But you will at least gain the main pieces and can hopefully replace most of the stamp images I used with some of your own.

We have so much creativity that is shared from members of our community – in our team events, in our Facebook group, and in our cards that we swap. Today I am sharing our latest cards that were swapped on November 7th. I hope you still get a ton of inspiration from what arrived. The focus was using current products to show fun ways to use inks other than just straight stamping! Click here to find links to the current catalogs.
Take a look at all the creativity! Those that made each card are mentioned in the watermarks of the photos. By the way, this is a “sharing post” only. These ideas are to inspire creativity not to instruct. Please don’t ask for further details. I don’t have a supply list or measurements for each of these cards. And I don’t want to pressure the creators to provide that. Thanks for understanding. Of course, if you see an idea that you’d like me to share in the future, let me know.
A big thank you to all of the crafters/creators!
