I was absolutely in love with a couple cards I saw shared recently by fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, Jay Soriano. So I of course had to share what I learned with all of you! It’s an amazing yet simple technique for creating color-popping images. The trick is to stamp images containing shading/depth onto white cardstock with black ink and then color them in using bright markers that range from light to dark. Adding color just outside the images and mounting onto dark cardstock enhances the color-popping even more.
The images in the Timeless Tulips stamp set are perfect for this. These images were intended to be stamped with colored ink, but when stamped in black and colored in…WOW! Click here to see the cards demonstrated by Jay at Mitosucrafts.com.
I shared my version of Jay’s card using the outgoing 2018-20 In Colors in my latest Online Paper Crafting Class on Facebook this past Wednesday. Then I also uploaded a slightly smoother recording of this class onto my YouTube channel (since I know not everyone is ON Facebook) which I uploaded here in my blog post. Be sure to watch the video (you can just click on this image below if you are already on my blog), scroll through the close-up photos, check out the products list below, and then let me know if you have any questions.

I decided to pull out some of my 2019-20 Annual Catalog products that I put by the wayside when the seasonal catalogs began (the Magnolia Lane Designer Paper, Petal Pink Organdy Striped Ribbon, and Basics Adhesive-Backed Sequins). And I paired them with some of our newer products (the Under My Umbrella Stamp Seta and Umbrella Builder Punch) to create some Twisted Gatefold Cards so I could share them in my latest Online Paper Crafting Class.
This fun fold may look complicated, but it is a super easy to make. And when closed the card fits into a medium size envelope, so mailing it off to a friend is no problem.

I hope you haven’t put away those heart punches. As you can see from this card, they can be used year round.
Fellow demonstrator JoAnn Pollock shared some fun ideas with us this month in her February 2020 blog posts (I love her bride and groom card on 2/12/20, the paw print card on 2/13/20, and the strawberry card on 2/21/20.) And I was very inspired to make a couple punch art cards of my own using this Heart Punch Pack from the 2020 Spring Catalog, the Little Ladybug Stamp Set (the free bonus stamp set that can be earned with a $300 party order or single order), the coordinating Ladybug Dies, and the Christmastime Is Here Designer Paper which is still available. This may seem like a strange combination, but check out how well they work together in the following three cards.
This is my version of the strawberry card. I punched the two hearts from cardstocks that coordinated with the two shades of red in the designer paper (Poppy Parade and Cherry Cobbler). Then with another coordinating color, Mossy Meadow, I used the dies from the Ladybug Dies to create the tops of the berries. The seeds are stamped then colored in with the rain image in the Under My Umbrella Stamp Set.
Products I used… See below for a complete list of products I used linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, the heart punch makes a great four leaf clover. So I paired up the adorable ladybug image holding a clover with this giant one made with the hearts, added a stem (that I punched from the heart punch as well), and planted it in the ground made from the grass die in the Ladybug Dies.

This last card makes me giggle. I was brainstorming what I’ve made with heart shapes in the past, and remembered some scrapbook pages I designed with the contents of a past Paper Pumpkin kit which I shared on January 30, 2016. Click here to view them. The Little Ladybug stamp set has a sentiment that pairs well with this bra, too. So that’s what inspired me to make this fancy underwear card.

Welcome to our monthly “A Paper Pumpkin Thing” blog hop! See what I have to share. Then check out all the other blogs in the hop to see additional creative alternate paper crafting project ideas that we each came up with using the contents of the February 2020 Lovely Day Paper Pumpkin kit. To follow the hop and see other creative project ideas, simply scroll down and click on the names of other hop participants. (If you are receiving this blog post by email, click HERE to see the hop.)
Here is a photo of the intended projects from this month’s kit: nine 4-1/4” x 5-1/2” cards and envelopes that will help you celebrate birthdays and other grand occasions.
I’ve already shared a few other alternate projects using the contents of this kit on February 23rd.
Today I have for you two more projects: another mini gift bag (the one that Paper Pumpkin shared in it’s Facebook Live last night using the original dimensions from Linda Heller) and a 12×12 scrapbook page layout. Have a party for someone dear to you, and give them a gift card in this mini bag. Then take photos and add a couple favorites to this scrapbook page as a memorabilia of the event!
Products I used for these projects… See below for a complete list of extra products I used linked to where you can find them in my online store.
I got the idea for this bag from my team members, Nancy & Kayla at Stampinbae.com. They got the measurements from Linda Heller. It’s such an adorable size and is a perfect way to give a gift card.
Measurements to prepare…
Pretty Peacock striped card base from kit
(cut according to directions below)
Whisper White Cardstock
Scrap for stamping and punching cake/sentiment image
Silver Foil Sheets
Scrap for punching Starburst
Silver Metallic-Edge Ribbon
7-1/2″
Directions…
Cut 1/4″ off each short end of the open Pretty Peacock striped card base from the kit. These will be the handles of the bag. Set them aside. Cut another 1/2″ off one of the ends and discard. Cut the remaining piece parallel to the long side at 4-1/4″ so you end up with a 7-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ bag base piece.
This piece includes a score line at 3-1/2″ from one end. With that score line included in these measurements score parallel to it so you end up with score lines at 2-1/2″, 3″, 3-1/2″, 6″, 6-1/2″ and 7″. Then score parallel to the long side at 1″.
Follow the remaining bag assembly directions (if needed) from the video I shared on February 23rd.
For the front embellishment, stamp the sentiment words stacked close to one another. Then stamp the cake slice image closely above that. Punch with the 2″ Circle punch purposely leaving off the top part of the candle. Adhere to the punched Silver Foil Starburst shape. Add a silver candle from the Candle Embellishments. Then put on the front of the bag with Dimensionals.
This kit coordinates perfectly with the Happy Birthday to You Stamp Set (item 152308), which is available free as part of Stampin’ Up!’s Sale-A-Bration promotion. So I added images (die-cut with the coordinating Birthday Dies – also available for a limited time) to make this page layout.
Measurements to prepare…
Basic Black Cardstock
Two pieces that are 5-5/8″ x 4-1/4″
5-3/8″ x 4-1/8″
Pretty Peacock striped card base from kit
Two pieces that are 5-1/2″ x 4-1/8″
Circle medallion from kit
one whole one flipped over to the all white side
one whole one cut in half
Whisper White Cardstock
Scrap for stamping and die-cutting full cake
Scrap for stamping and die-cutting flowers only
Champagne Foil Sheets
Scraps for die-cutting cake plate and three branches
Directions…
Stamp, die-cut, and color flowers. Stamp and die-cut full cake (cut off the bottom). Die-cut the cake plate and the branches.
Stamp the sentiment onto the left half of the longest rectangular label from the kit.
Layer Pretty Peacock striped card base pieces onto coordinating Basic Black pieces. Layer printed Pool Party piece from the kit onto the remaining Basic Black piece. Adhere flipped over medallion. Position these three main layers onto the Pear Pizzazz 12×12 Cardstock base. And once they are where you want them, stamp the large flower image using VersaMark ink so they appear to be peeking out from behind the photo mats. (Move the mats when stamping.)
Now adhere mats using adhesive just in the four corners of the photo mats and in the center of the other layer. This will allow the remaining pieces to be tucked underneath where needed.
For each half medallion, add a Champagne branch with a glue dot. Then put adhesive on the back of the half medallions, tuck under the layer next to it, and secure to the page.
Adhere the sentiment banner strip so it is also tucked under the layer next to it while attaching the foam celebrate piece right below. Cut an end from another banner piece in the kit and adhere this tucked under the other side of that photo mat.
Attach full cake and cake plate with Dimensionals while attaching the third branch piece coming out the upper right. And add the second colored layer of cake flowers with Dimensionals so they are lined up with the flowers underneath.

The February 2020 Paper Pumpkin kit is in my hands, and I’ve been having a GRAND time creating alternate projects with it! I LOVE the rose gold accenting and the sparkling pink sequins. The color combination (Petal Pink, Pool Party, Pretty Peacock, Rich Razzleberry, Rococo Rose, and Old Olive) is so inviting. And the stamp set is one of those that is a true keeper. I hope many of you were able to get your hands on this one.
The kit is titled Lovely Day and it included supplies to put together nine 4-1/4” x 5-1/2” cards and envelopes. And it included the supplies shown below.
I like to think outside the box…see what else I can come up with, and create alternate cards, scrapbook pages and more. So I added the extra supplies in the product list at the bottom of this post to the above kit contents and created my alternate projects that I’m sharing with you today:
Two Slide-Out Pocket Fun Fold Cards
Mini Gift Bags (Make Two From One Card Base)
A Hexaflexagon Card

I hope I inspired your creativity with what I shared today!
