I have had some down time this week (no classes/events), so I've been finding time to do a little personal scrapbooking. And as I look back on family photos and reflect on fun times together and memories we've made, I'm feeling pretty darn grateful.
So today I thought I'd share with you a set of "Truly Grateful" pages we made in October for Scrappin' Sunday. I love this stamp set. It was one of the first items I ordered from the Holiday Catalog because my brother was getting married and I thought the images in this set went so well with their wedding décor.
This layout was inspired by a page that I got in a swap from Georgia Giguere. (Thanks, Georia!) I took elements of her layout such as the banners & the central embellishment and reworked them into a 2-page spread so that I could offer them in a class setting.
The Sweater Weather paper is gorgeous and sets the color scheme for the layout. I also added Crumb Cake 12×12 as my main neutral color because it worked great with the burlap ribbon and gave the pages warmth.
The wider strips of designer paper are really only 6" long. They are cut into two pieces – the piece that peeks above the photo mat and the rest of the banner that hangs below.
The burlap ribbon is pretty thick. So instead of wrapping it over the edge of the card stock, the Naturals Cotton ribbon is wrapped over the end of the burlap to prevent it from fraying.
The linen thread is just tied through the end loop of the safety pin, but you could instead tie the thread then pierce it with the pin to attach it.
So grateful that I have this one more day to get some more personal scrapbooking done before the kiddos get home from school! Anyone else taking the day to get caught up in scrapbooking?
This first one is my own design. I LOVE that stamp set, Wetlands. It's handsome and pretty at the same time…a keeper. Plus the words are in a beautiful font. The birch bark paper is from our Thankful Tablescapes Simply Created kit in our Holiday Catalog. I listed (and linked to my store) all the supplies for this card at the bottom of my post.
This second card is a swap that I got from Sue Dyas, one of my talented sister demonstrators (we share the same upline). I love that stamp set – The Best of Halloween. It has a lot of great images in it. And look!… She used the Envelope Punch Board to make the file folder tabs! Love it.
The third card is so beautiful that I HAD to copy it from Dawn Olchefske's blog. First she die-cut the Window Frame from the front of the card. Then from that leftover piece she die-cut another smaller Window Frame that she put on the inside of the card to hold the greeting. The Lattice die-cut was added with glue dots in each corner and then supported by a layer of vellum. It's detailed but easy to duplicate.
I love them all! Do you have a favorite?

Back on October 7th I posted some great "Thankful" scrapbook pages. Today I thought I would show you photos of these pages being made by my retreat class attendees.
Because I couldn't fit everyone into this class at the retreat and because there are other stampers who said they wanted to make them, I am offering this class again on November 17th at my Stampin' Studio in my home in Andover. If you live nearby and would like to attend, please contact me. Here is a link to my newsletter to give you the class information. I need all RSVPs by November 3rd so I can order and prepare supplies in time.
Sponging and adding ribbon…
Adding the paper strips…
Die-cutting and attaching the title…
Embossing the antique brad to make it bright gold…
Curling, sponging and adding the leaves and lined paper…
…are some of the fun things we got to do to make these striking pages.
It was a fun class! Hope to see some of you on November 17th for the second class offering.
Here's a great masculine card using one of my favorite stamp sets, From My Heart. The colors are earthy and the textures are rough and torn thanks to the designer paper and sponging to add depth.
This message would be great for a birthday card, but I could also see it being used for a retirement card or anniversary card.
I sponged the torn edges of the Island Indigo card stock and the edges of the Sahara Sand center oval with Early Espresso ink (a much darker color) which deepens the perception of depth.
You'll also see in the photo below that I first stamped this center image on the base card stock so that when all the layers were placed on top, the ends of the image peek out on the sides.
The card opens to reveal a fun-fold and another message in a window.
A different idea you may want to try on one of your own cards. Thanks for stopping by today!
We are hoping to set up the tent this weekend and go 'camping.' The boys have never been. I KNOW… Shame on me! But if the weather forecast holds true, we'll be camping in the back yard as a practice run. (Or… Maybe we should hit a real campsite instead so my boys can't chicken out and go inside? Hmm… I'll have to ponder that.)
Then when we DO go to a REAL campsite, these pages will be ready to fill with photos of our fun memories. (I need to change the title, though.) These were the pages my scrapbooking club made this past Sunday. And the crafters came up with some great titles that are bit more 'fitting' for Minnesota: At The Lake, Gone Fishin', At The Cabin, etc…
I showed my scrapbookers how to change the color of the Pearls Basic Jewels. They were quite impressed that it was a simple as coloring them with Sharpie Markers.
I also demonstrated one of Stampin' Up!'s newest products – Simply Pressed Clay. LOVE THAT STUFF! The only downfall is that it needs to dry overnight. So the clay buttons (shown in Coastal Cabana blue below) were already premade for them. All they had to do was color them.
We also did Triple-Time Stamping on the pages. I've taught this technique to my card-makers, but not to my scrapbookers. So many were impressed.
I just realized that I haven't shared that technique on my blog yet! Oh, goodie… another idea to share. But if you can't wait, just google "triple time stamping technique," and you'll find video tutorials and card ideas out there.
I'll get a tutorial up about that spectacular clay, too! I promise. It's on my list.
