Going Golfing This Weekend?

Make a golfer's day by sending them a fun golf card. This one is very easy to create. The green background is popped up off the black surface with Dimensionals so that the hole appears to have depth. I embossed the golf ball so it is textured to look like a real golf ball. A bone folder is a great tool for curling your papers and card stock. I used this tool to make the flag wavy.

Soho Subway

There are fabulous new designer paper sets in the New 2013-14 Catalog. One of my favorites is called Soho Subway.

130140L
It's artsy, modern, eye-catching and works well with BOTH masculine and feminine designs. Thankfully it was something I could preorder before the new catalog's début last Friday. (LOVE those demonstrator perks!)

Here is a very simple card I made:

IMG_5100

The really nice thing about this card (besides it being easy to make) is that it uses the designer paper VERY wisely. The letter image paper is 4"x2". You could get 18 from one of the two sheets with no waste. The subtle cube pattern paper is 4"x3". You could get 12 from one of the two sheets with no waste. And to cover the gap I used a thin strip of Early Espresso card stock between the two.

Do you also notice that the layer behind the Summer Starfruit oval layer is actually made from two punched shapes – the 1-3/4" Circle punch and the Decorative Label punch? Pretty cool huh?!

Supplies used: Chalk Talk (wood-mount or clear-mount), Soho Subway Designer Paper, Early Espresso card stock and Classic ink, Very Vanilla and Summer Starfruit card stock, Early Espresso Stitched Grosgrain ribbon, 1-3/4" Circle punch, Decorative Label punch, Extra-Large Oval Punch, and Dimensionals.

Finally Gave In And Got The Framelits

It happens ALL the time. I see something in the catalog that I would LOVE to have, but can't justify buying it quite at the time I want it. And then after a few months a card idea I see or another product they come out with that matches it makes me add it to the shopping cart – I finally cave in. But I guess that's what made me sign up to be a demonstrator in the first place. I spend too much and needed the discount. (Giggle)

So did you all know that the stamp, Just Thinking in the Spring Catalog (that I got for free as a gift at the Stampin' Up! Leadership Conference!) is much easier to cut out with it's matching framelit?! Well it is. I tried cutting it out a couple times, and finally realized I'd save a TON of time if I just invested in the Window Frames Collection Framelits.

Here is one card my stampers will be making at the Card Cafe event next week. I also used this card as a swap at a demonstrator event recently. It's super fast and easy to make. AND it's a great masculine card.

A tip: Cut your designer paper to 4"x4" so you can get more from a sheet of 12"x12" paper, then cut it in half. The navy card stock covers the gap so it appears that the designer paper is wider than it really is.

Supplies used: Just Thinking stamp, Window Frames Collection Framelits and Big Shot, Night of Navy card stock and ink pad, Very Vanilla card stock, First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper, Real Red 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon, Glue Dot, Dimensionals, Metallic brads (silver).

Kissing – A Great Stamping Technique

My stampers get to learn a technique each month when they attend Stamp Camp. This month they'll be learning a fun and easy technique called "kissing." Everytime I share this technique, those that are new to it Oooo and Ahhhh about it. It's super easy to do, and it gives a great effect.

IMG_4406

Kissing is done by taking two inked up stamps and bringing the rubber images together before stamping. It's best to have a stamp with a pattern and a solid one that will pick up the pattern. On the card shown above, I inked up the Netting background stamp with Early Espresso ink.

IMG_4661

Then I inked up "Dad" from Family Reunion with River Rock ink. I kissed them together to get the netting image onto the solid word stamp,…

IMG_4662

…then I stamped it on the card stock.

And with these close up photos, you can see the subtle shimmer in the Shimmery White card stock. It's a bit pricier than Whisper White, but SO-O-O-O-O worth it when you see how gorgeous it looks.

23 Scrapbook Pages Done!

If you've never been on one, a crafting retreat is one of THE best ways to catch up on your scrapbooking and other crafting projects. I host 2-3 of these each year, and it's amazing how much we all get done. I just returned from a retreat this past weekend and was able to finish 23 pages (one of my higher totals). But there were several ladies that cranked out many more than that! We showed up on Thursday, stayed through Sunday but STILL felt like we needed 'just one more day.' Not only are we away from the distractions of home, but we get inspired by all the other creating going on around us. I highly recommend attending one sometime. Sharing a weekend with a bunch of fellow women is very uplifting and theraputic.

This was one of my favorite sets of pages I completed…

IMG_4105

I used a couple retired stamp sets, but I'm hoping the layout will give some inspiration. I actually created these pages a year or so ago for my scrapbooking clubs, so all I had to do at this year's retreat is move around a couple embellishments, add matted photos, add journaling, stamp the "Go Team" image and stick on a couple extra rhinestones. These are photos of my oldest son, Nicholas and his baseball team he was on last spring.

Bottom Row: Margo T., Me, Michelle N., and Renee B. (Julie H. is not pictured. She wasn't feeling well at the time.)

A Tribute to Dr. Who?

Here's a fun card that my club members will be making this month. The sample definitely looks like a tribute to Dr. Who (if you are a fan), but they will have a choice of two other images to use on their card. (See the stamp set below.)

(Feeling Sentimental – a Sale-A-Bration set you can earn with a $50 order during Sale-A-Bration)

That phone booth sure is cool, though. AND what a great birthday card this would be for a pre-teen or teenager into the si-fi series.

Polished Stone will be our technique for club. To get this polished stone background, put rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball, add some drops of Classic ink (I used Marina Mist and Midnight Muse) and a couple drops of Shimmer Paint (I used Frost White), then dab the cotton ball all over Shimmery White card stock. It dries fairly quickly, too. Very fun and very easy!

IMG_3776

Did you notice the flattened Soda Pop Top?! Just run it through your Big Shot die-cutting machine with Tabs 1 and 2 open on your platform (sandwiched between the 2 cutting pads), and you'll get a flattened Soda Pop Top. This larger size Soda Pop top coordinates with the 1" circle punch.
