Sample Strips of Ornate Garden

Last month I sent the demonstrators in my Stampers With ART community a sampling of 3/4″ x 3″ strips of the new Ornate Garden Designer Paper, one of the new products from the Ornate Garden Suite, an early release grouping of products from the upcoming 2020-21 Annual Catalog.

Here are cards that a few of these demonstrators made with their strips. Thanks Nora, Vy, Cheryl, Lisa, and Beth for photographing your creations!

Two Other Versions…

I shared a card on March 5th using a few products from the Parisian Blossoms Suite…

All Star Tutorial Blog Hop March 2020 featuring the Parisian Blossoms Suite of products from the 2020 Spring Catalog. Get directions, measurements and supplies for the card I created and shared. AND see other great ideas with this suite shared by the 11 others in our tutorial group! - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

But this “Cherish” card shown above was actually inspired by the layout that I originally made with this card below.

Three cards with the same basic layout featuring beautiful paper from Parisian Blossoms, Peaceful Poppies, and Lily Impressions. These cards prove that designer paper is meant to be used and not hidden away in a craft room. Access measurements, directions, and a list of supplies I used linked to my online store. - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

Some of you may think you’ll use up your pretty papers too quickly if you cover the whole front of a card. But look how easy it is to make a pretty card without a lot of fuss. AND my guess is that those of you not using much designer paper also have quite a bit of pretty paper that you may NEVER use…piles of it? wink wink Designer paper is meant to be used and not hidden away and hoarded in our craft rooms.  So dig it out. And use this simple layout for inspiration to make cards that you can send off to your family and friends!

Flowering Foils & Lily Impressions Hexaflexagons

Here’s a card that may blow your mind. It’s called a Hexaflexagon. And it’s made from just one 2″ x 12″ strip of paper! A little background on this type of fun fold from Wikepedia… “In geometry, flexagons are flat models, usually constructed by folding strips of paper, that can be flexed or folded in certain ways to reveal faces besides the two that were originally on the back and front. Flexagons are usually square or rectangular or hexagonal. The discovery of the first flexagon, a trihexaflexagon, is credited to the British student Arthur H. Stone, who was studying at Princeton University in the United States in 1939.”

I love math! So I was very intrigued when I saw one that Joyce Batta shared in the Paper Pumpkin Fan Club on Facebook. And I started investigating. I created and shared a version yesterday that I then made with the February 2020 Lovely Day Paper Pumpkin kit. But I also wanted to put a video out there concentrating on JUST this fold alone. So I made a few other versions, and this never-ending fun fold became my project for my past Wednesday’s Facebook Live Online Paper Crafting Class.

I uploaded the recorded version of my Facebook Live video to my YouTube channel (since I know not everyone is ON Facebook). And then I was able to share it here in my blog post. Be sure to watch the video (you can just click on this image below if you are already on my blog), scroll through the close-up photos, check out the products list below, and then let me know if you have any questions.

I hope you enjoyed what I shared in this video. Below are measurements, close-up photos, and a product list for the cards I demonstrated.

Paper Pumpkin Dec ’19 Something for Everything – Alternate Ideas

I rushed right into creating with my new December 2019 Paper Pumpkin kit because my mind was racing with alternate project ideas the moment I opened the box AND because I wanted to share with you right away. With my family on vacation for two weeks for the holidays I wanted to be sure to share with you before all of us went on relaxation, sleeping-in-late mode. ?Hahaha!

This month’s kit (titled Something for Everything) included supplies to put together 12 attractive all-occasion cards (4 of 3 designs). And it included the supplies shown below.

The December 2019 Something for Everything Paper Pumpkin Kit. - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

I like to think outside the box…see what else I can come up with, and create alternate cards, scrapbook pages and more. So I added the extra supplies in the product list at the bottom of this post to the above kit contents and created my alternate projects that I’m sharing with you today:

  • Three K-Cup holders
  • A simple congratulations card
  • A flower pot card
  • A pyramid/teepee card
  • And a 12×12 scrapbook page

Watch my video first to get to get measurements, directions, and tips (you can just click on this image below if you are already on my blog). Scroll down to see close-up photos, access the links that I mentioned in my video, and see a list of extra supplies (linked to my online store) that I used to make my creations. Then be sure to visit my blog again soon, because I have many more alternate projects that I’ll be sharing in early January. ?

Here are the cards the kit instructs how to make.

It Started With Just a Few Strips

Normally I open a second box and end up using about 1-1/2 kits each month to make my Paper Pumpkin alternate projects. But I only worked with one box this time. So I didn’t have much left over from the October Paper Pumpkin kit when it came down to make six of one more card design: five to gift to my prize-winning subscribers and one to keep as a sample.

I think I get the most creative when I have very few products in front of me. Because I love the card I’m sharing with you today! I had only some partial card bases left (two with ovals cut from the middle) and a few extra strips from other card bases. So with 18 1/2″ wide strips of card base paper, 6 pairs of tree trunks, some cardinals, some snowflake sequins, and the help of some annual catalog products, I came up with this layout.

Click here for directions, measurements and supplies AND to see more photos of this pretty all-occasion card I created with the October 2019 Winter Woods Paper Pumpkin kit (the one I designed to send to a few of my Paper Pumpkin subscribers). - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

No sentiments. In fact…no stamp images. WHAT!? It’s true. I love stamping, but it IS possible to make cards without those great inks and stamps. hehehe

Here are the details if you wish to recreate this card.

Products I used… See below for a complete list of extra products I used linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Measurements…

  • Whisper White Thick Cardstock
    • 4-1/4” x 11″ scored parallel to the short side at 5-1/2”
  • Basic Black Cardstock
    • 2-3/4” x 4-3/4” scrap for die-cutting the Stitched Nested Label Die
  • Kit card base (blue “watercolor wash” sections)
    • 2-1/2″ x 1/2″ strips (three of them that vary in design/color somewhat)
  • Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon
    • 13″

Directions…

  • Fold Whisper White card base, crease with the Bone Folder, and wrap and tie ribbon in a knot. Don’t trim ends yet and don’t secure with any adhesive. You may need to maneuver later.
  • Die-cut Basic Black scrap with the Stitched Nested Label Die that measures a little less than 2-1/2″ wide. After die-cutting, use SNAIL to adhere the strips of blue. Start with the middle one, then adhere the other two just above and just below leaving a small gap. Use a sponge to apply Multipurpose Liquid Glue to the back side and adhere the trees. Make sure the strips are running horizontally and the trees are running vertically so they are perpendicular to each other. Also make sure to have the sparkly side of the trees showing.
  • Trim the excess sections of the strips and tree parts. Then set this back within the Stitched Nested Label Die. The black should line up with the stitches. You may have to rotate it 180 degrees to get it to fit again. Then die-cut it all once again to get the stitching through all layers.

  • With the help of the Take Your Pick Tool, attach the cardinal and the snowflake sequins with the glue dots from the kit. Then add this layer to the front of the card using Dimensionals. Shift/adjust the ribbon so the knot is lying just underneath, and trim the ends.
  • Stamp a sentiment of your choice on the inside if you wish.

Products I used: See below for a complete list of products I used linked to where you can find them in my online store.

Directions:

  • Cut out the flower that you desire from the larger “all-floral” sheet of Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut Paper. Sponge Multipurpose Glue on the back (on the white side), and then adhere to the Perennial Essence Designer Paper. Trim off any excess extending beyond.
  • Cut out the leaf cluster that you desire from the larger “all-floral” sheet of Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut Paper. Add the 4″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Pool Party to the inside of the card while tucking in the leaf cluster so it’s coming out the upper right.

The Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut Paper is a must-have! You can use as a layer, an accent, a frame or an embellishment on your cards and other paper crafting projects. • Adhere all the other layers in order on the front of the card: Shaded Spruce, Pool Party, Night of Navy, and the designer paper layer.
  • Embellish with a few Holiday Rhinestones.

My second card is made with the double dandelion framed section of the Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut Paper. I flipped it over so the shimmer was down and the white was up. It just worked better for this card layout in my opinion. And it made the card seem brighter.

MY ONLINE PAPER CRAFTERS CLUB IS LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS

The commitment is to order at least $25 worth of Stampin’ Up! product in each of those 6 months. In one of those months, you would reap the hosting rewards (free merchandise based on the club orders). And then you’d also be able to get in on monthly product perks that would be sent to you along with your monthly club cards.
