Have you ever made a card from a bag? I decided to try it and I’m in love with the results.
The fun fold card is made from the larger bag. So I also made a matching treat holder with the smaller bag. (These gift bags are sold together and are part of the suite. But you can buy them separately.)
A few hours ago I shared live on YouTube and on Facebook step-by-step directions for creating these card & treat bag sets. And now I’m sharing that video here in my blog post. Be sure to watch the video by clicking here (or you can just click on this image below if you are already on my blog post), scroll through the close-up photos that follow, check out the measurements & products list below, and then let me know if you have any questions.
(Though my card & bag sets are related to love and Valentine’s Day, you could change out the patterned papers, colors, sentiments, etc and create card/bag combos for many other occasions. Create and then share YOUR versions in our Stamp Your Art Out Group on Facebook.)

Here are photos of the finished cards that I made from the largest of the bags. Closed they measure 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.
And open they measure about 14″ wide!
Here are photos of the finished treat bags that I made from the smallest of the bags.
When the flaps of the bags are shut, the bag shape will be more like a purse (in the shape of a triangular prism). So keep that in mind when planning what you’ll put inside. The base measures about 1-3/4″ x 3-1/4″. The height is about 3-1/2″.
Decorating the envelopes is optional, but so much fun!
Did you get your hands on this month’s bundle of video classes? Each month’s Video Class Bundle includes photos, imperial and metric measurements, complete product lists, and links to instructional videos for twelve projects designed by our team of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world. I just hosted a card swap, and one of the cards in this swap inspired me. I decided it would be great for this Mystery Stamping event! If you’ve never seen a mystery stamping presentation before, it’s a lot of fun. You create with the supplies in your craft room by following a series of step-by-step clues that are put before you.
So go into your crafting space, play the video below (or click HERE if you do not see the video), and follow my “clues” to try to create something similar to this style card from the swap. Then scroll down to see samples of finished versions of this fun fold card that I made. Thanks for tuning in! Okay…Get ready for some mystery stamping!
I’m assuming if you are scrolling down that you have watched the video. Wasn’t that fun?! I shared five finished card samples in the video. Below are photos of 4 of them – the ones I created.
By the way…the supply list at the end of this post includes some of the main products featured in the cards. These items are linked to where you can find them in my online store. I didn’t list adhesives and tools like I usually do.
Here are the clues I shared in the video.
Clue #1: This will be a landscape style card with the opening at the bottom. Materials to gather…
Designer/Patterned Paper (from the same pack)
A more subtle pattern
2-1/4” high x 5-3/8” wide (6 cm high x 14.5 cm wide)
A more dominate pattern
4-1/4” high x 2-1/4” wide (10.5 cm high x 5.7 cm wide)
Base cardstock (that coordinates with both patterned papers AND blends in well with the subtle one)
5-1/2” x 8-1/2” (14.8 cm x 21 cm)
Light neutral cardstock
4” x 5-1/4” (9.9 cm x 14.2 cm)
2-7/8” x 4-1/8” (7.2 cm x 11.5 cm)
Darker cardstock (that coordinates with both patterned papers)
4-1/8” x 5-3/8” (10.2 x 14.5 cm)
3” x 4-1/4” (7.5 cm x 11.8 cm)
½” x 6-1/4” (1.2 cm x 16.2 cm)
Trimmer w/scoring blade
Bone Folder
Snips
Dimensionals
Other Adhesives
Stamps & Ink
Embellishments
Clue #2: Grab your 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” (14.8 cm x 21 cm) card base piece. Score parallel to the short side at 4-1/4” (10.5 cm). Then fold (use a Bone Folder to help) and rotate this folded base so it’s positioned landscape style with the opening at the bottom.
Clue #3: Measure and mark (with a pencil) the ½-way point on the front right edge. Mark the lower left corner. Open the card base and cut that front from one mark to the other. Pull away that triangular layer. Do not flip it over but rotate it so the once “lower right corner” is now in the lower left corner and the straight edges line up with the left and bottom edges of the folded card once again. This is how this piece will attach eventually, but first we need to add designer/patterned papers and the half-inch strip.
Clue #4: Adhere the more dominant patterned paper to this triangular layer leaving a narrow bit (~1/16”) of cardstock exposed on the left and bottom edges. Trim off the excess patterned paper that isn’t attached to the triangular layer. Adhere the longest edge of this triangular piece atop the ½” wide strip exposing just a narrow bit (1-16” or 1/8”) of the strip all the way along that edge. Be sure this strip extends a bit beyond the triangles corners.
Clue #5: Adhere the more subtle patterned paper to the to the top front of the card base leaving a narrow bit (~1/16”) of cardstock exposed on the left, top and right edges. Trim off the excess patterned paper extending past that initial diagonal cut.
Clue #6: Attach the layered triangular piece into place lining up the corners and the left and bottom edges. Trim off any cardstock & paper extending beyond the 4-1/4” x 5-1/2” (10.5 cm x 14.8 cm) folded card base.
Clue #7: Adhere the darker cardstock pieces into place: the 4-1/8” x 5-3/8” (10.2 x 14.5 cm) to the inside bottom half of the open card base & the 3” x 4-1/4” (7.5 cm x 11.8 cm) centered in the middle (with Dimensionals) on the front of the folded card base. Be careful where you place your Dimensionals.
Clue #8: Stamp your white layers. Add them to the darker cardstock layers. And embellish to finish your card!
And here are four of the finished cards.

Here are a couple more chocolate bar card variations. I assembled these two cards more recently. After sharing my first versions from my November 18th blog post, I got some great ideas from a couple fellow team members and YouTube members. So I used three of those ideas in these versions.
I loved the use of the More Than Autumn stamp set sentiments with the implication of the word chocolate. Thanks Vy Tran!
JoAnn Pollock shared one of her versions with an extra layer of candy wrapping.
She also shared that since the bottom is covered by the wrapping, that you really can start with a 5-1/2″ height on your card. Click here to see her versions and read through her directions and tips.
Both of these cards are created with 4-1/8″ x 11″ bases scored at 5-1/2″. The left card is easy to score. Each section is 1-3/8″ x 1-3/8″ – scored vertically at 1-3/8″ and 2-3/4″ & scored horizontally at 1-3/8″, 2-3/4″ and 4-1/8″. The right card is scored vertically at 1-3/8″ and 2-3/4″ & scored horizontally at 1-1/8″, 2-1/4″, 3-3/8″ and 4-1/2″. My last row is a little bit shorter. It’s an inch tall… 1/8″ shorter than the other rows.
I didn’t add the layered rectangles on the last row, because that area would be covered up. But I’m not so sure I like that, because the wrapper dips a bit in this spot. If you want to save on time though, just know that is an option. In hindsight, maybe I could’ve added Dimensionals under there?
The other thing I tried on one of these was to die-cut and punch and fussy cut a bite mark. But the multiple layers made this very difficult. And though the bite mark did NOT turn out the way I’d wanted (I used a die from the Something Fancy Dies and then trimmed more with my scissors. But a cloud from the Bright Skies Dies might have worked better. Ignore that my bite mark is from a monster with one large front middle tooth!), I still decided to share this version with you for the idea.
I didn’t incorporate all the ideas that were shared with me, but here are a few others you could try.
JoAnn Pollock suggested inking the scored areas and edges of the layered rectangles/squares to create a more 3D effect.
Kim Greenslade suggested a chocolate bar card would be perfect as a mini slimline (tall and narrow).
Marsha Mendenhall suggested using stamps and VersaMark ink on the squares to make the chocolate look printed.
If you’d like to recreate these cards, refer to even more instructions shared from my 11/18 post (or from JoAnn’s post).
I’m now off to bake Christmas cookies!
Oh! Here is a photo of our decorated tree and our Dept. 56 North Pole village in the corner of our main room.
I’ll be sure to post more photos from my family’s Christmas festivities by next weekend.

My December Paper Pumpkin kit arrived Wednesday afternoon, and I designed my first set of alternate projects yesterday using the contents of this card kit and a bit of other coordinating product! I’ll share three ideas today. I’ll share more on January 10th for the “A Paper Pumpkin Thing.” And one more idea I’m keeping exclusive to contribute to the collection of exclusives my Paper Pumpkin Creatives Team is currently compiling…projects we will share just with our personal Paper Pumpkin subscribers and team members (more details below).
Here are the consumable supplies (minus the stamp set and ink) that come with this kit.
This kit has enough supplies to make 9 beautiful cards (3 of 3 kinds). Do you want to make them as intended? Click here for a link to Stampin’ Up!’s how-to video.
But I never assemble my kits as is, because I like to show kit recipients other ways to use their supplies. I like to think outside the box, see what else I can come up with, and create alternate cards, scrapbook pages, and more. So today I’m sharing with you three fun fold cards.
Watch my videohere to get to get measurements, directions, and tips (or you can just click on this image below if you are already in my blog post). Scroll down to see close-up photos, access the links that I mentioned in my video, and see a list of extra supplies (linked to my online store) that I used to make my creations. Then be sure to visit my blog again soon, because I’ll have many more alternate projects that I’ll be sharing in future posts!
I hope you enjoyed what I shared and gained some creative inspiration! Below are close-up photos of the alternate projects I made and shared in my video. (Remember to watch my video first to get measurements, tips and directions.)
**Products that I’ve shared or mentioned are shown/listed below and are currently linked to my online store.
Bend Open Pocket Card
(This is the one I demonstrated in the live video.)
Split Window Card
(This is the one I demonstrated in the live video. I ended up trimming both sides to equal out the look and “correct” my mistake.)
SquareColumn Fold Card
(This is the one I demonstrated in the live video for those who don’t own a die-cutting and embossing machine.)
If you did not get this kit, I hope you can apply these ideas to products you already own. OR…become an active subscriber and get in on the refill kit. (The refill typically shows up in the online store soon after the 20th.) It doesn’t contain the ink and stamp images. But you will at least gain the main pieces and can hopefully replace most of the stamp images I used with some of your own.
If you are not a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, I invite you to give it a try. CLICK HERE to learn more. CLICK HERE to sign up by January 10th for this next kit.
