#APaperPumpkinThing Welcome to our monthly APPT blog hop to showcase Paper Pumpkin kit alternate projects! This time we are highlighting the “Sunshine & Smiles” February 2023 Paper Pumpkin kit. See what I have to share. Then check out all the other blogs in the hop for additional creative ideas that my fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrator friends shared. Here are the cards the kit instructs how to make. (Click here for a link to Stampin’ Up!’s how-to video to help you assemble these as intended.)
I’ve already shared some other alternate projects using the contents of this kit on February 22nd.
A tri-fold window card (a fun-fold card)
And how I turned the three different kit cards into eight (more than doubling the cards you can make from the kit contents)
Today I am sharing…
An adorable mini album (great for a gift!)
AND… a simple set of refrigerator magnets
Yes! It’s a simple idea. By adding magnets to the back sides, you can make fun scenes on your refrigerator. And what a great activity for young kids (or bored teenagers hanging out in the kitchen).
I used business card magnets with Stampin’ Up!’s Foam Adhesive Sheets. I peeled the backing off one of the magnets, stuck it to a sticky side of a similar size piece of Foam Adhesive Sheet, and then trimmed it into pieces that fit each of the kit pieces.
By using the Foam Adhesive Sheets, the added height makes it easier to grab the character and move it.
Here is the next project idea. I received a mini album as a gift from my friend and fellow demonstrator, Luanne Peterson. So I used that layout from hers as inspiration for this one I’m sharing today. The layout is similar with slightly different measurements to maximize the use of the 12×12 cardstock base.
Measurements…
Balmy Blue Cardstock
12″ x 12″ scored in one direction at 5″ and 10″ and then scored in the other direction at 3-3/4″, 3-15/16″, 7-3/4″ and 8-1/8″
Larger layers (from the kit cards and the Rain or Shine Designer Paper)
3-5/8″ x 4-7/8″
Smaller white layers (from the envelopes)
1-7/8″ x 3-5/8″
Basic Black Cardstock
optional…these 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″ pieces are just in there to represent photos in the windows
Piece wrapped around the outside when closed (from an envelope)
cut as directed below
Balmy Blue and White Variegated Ribbon
25″
Most of the products come from the kit, but there are a few extras.
Products I used… See below for a complete list of extra products I used linked to where you can find them in my online store.
After scoring the Balmy Blue 12″ x 12″ Cardstock, remove the skinny strip sections. Below is a visual of the scores and cut out sections.
Add the layers. The strips along the bottom of the white sections are just leftovers that I had after cutting the card bases down to size. Photos can be added to the top of the solid layers and…
…underneath the window layers. I used the glue dots in the kit just at the very top of the window layers.
To cut the window layers so the windows are centered, trim the card base at 3-15/16″ as shown below. Then flip and trim at 3-5/8″. Then trim off a little over a quarter inch (5/16″) from each of the other two ends.
To cut the wrapped outside piece (from one of the envelopes), trim 7/16″ (just under 1/2″) from each of the two sides. Then without opening the envelope and with the bottom closed edge lined up at 4-1/8″ mark on your trimmer, cut the excess off as shown below.
Open it up and now line up the straight edge at the 3-3/4″ mark and score to give you a second score line. Add this after all the inside layers are completed and after you’ve stamped the sun image. So when ready, fold up the completed album, tie on the ribbon, wrap and glue on this piece, untie the ribbon so that it’s flat under the layer when drying, add the final embellishment pieces, and re-tie the ribbon when dry.
Here is a walk through now of the album closed and what it looks like as it opens up.
(By the way, I used one of each of the different card bases, an extra yellow card base, and two pieces of designer paper for the 10 larger layers.)
Here is a look at the inside fully open.
And here is a look at it when it’s flipped over.
Thanks for seeing what I had to share. I hope these ideas inspired your creativity!

I received my February 2023 Sunshine & Smiles Paper Pumpkin monthly subscription kit yesterday afternoon, and I’m excited to share with you today my first set of alternate projects that I just put together!
This fun kit contained the supplies shown below to make nine cheerful cards (3 of 3 designs).
But I never assemble my kits as is, because I like to share other ways to use those supplies. I like to think outside the box…see what else I can come up with, and create alternate cards, scrapbook pages and more. So today I’m sharing with you…
A tri-fold window card (a fun-fold card)
And how I turned the three different kit cards into eight (more than doubling the cards you can make from the kit contents)
Because my craft studio has been overtaken by tools and supplies for our bathroom remodel project, I haven’t been able to spend time in there and haven’t had a lot of creative time. So I decided to combine two things together: my first set of Paper Pumpkin alternates AND my Wednesday Live Online Paper Crafting Class. What a whirlwind! But oh so fun!!! Normally my Paper Pumpkin alternate videos are pre-recorded so I can edit out mistakes and speed up slow parts. So I had to be pretty organized bringing all of this into a Live recording.
Watch my video first by clicking here to get to get measurements, directions, and tips (or you can just click on this image below if you are already in my blog post). Scroll down to see close-up photos, access the links that I mentioned in my video, and see a list of extra supplies (linked to my online store) that I used to make my creations. Then be sure to visit my blog again soon, because I have many more alternate projects that I’ll be sharing on March 3rd.
Here are the cards the kit instructs how to make. (Click here for a link to Stampin’ Up!’s how-to video to help you assemble these as intended.)

My first set of alternate January 2023 Key to My Heart Paper Pumpkin projects is ready to share! Hopefully you enjoy what I came up with. My favorite is the pendulum card, but the mini album was fun to make too! The simple idea of interlocking the padlocks might inspire those of you that love the kit cards the way they are, but just want to add a “little something.” Then there is the card with the flap door! (I hope that helps with a variation on that cut out card.) AND… I think moms of little kids will appreciate the idea of doubling the treat containers in the coordinating Heart Boxes add-on.
This love-themed kit contained the supplies shown below to make nine Valentine cards (3 of 3 kinds).
But I like to think outside the box and see what else I can come up with. So here are my instructional videos for what I created.

Too fun! Look at these cheerful farm-themed Extended 3-Panel Scenery Z-Fold cards I made with the A Day At The Farm Sale-a-Bration 2023 Designer Paper Pack, sentiment images from the Best Family Ever Stamp Set, the Layering Circle Dies, the Banners Pick-a-Punch, and some other coordinating products!
Products I used… See below for a complete list of products linked to where you can find them in my online store.
I created these cards back in early December and am just now getting around to sharing them with all of you here on my blog. (There is always so much to share! Hahaha) But I had shown these in my weekly Live to my Stampers With ART Stars group on December 7th (demonstrators can get their hands on products about a month earlier than everyone else). This paper is PERFECT for this type of card, right?!
Here are the measurements for the main pieces…
Measurements
Base cardstock (Garden Green or Basic White)
5-1/2” x 11” scored parallel to the short end at 3-1/16” from the left and 4-1/4” from the right
Inside sentiment panel cardstock
1-13/16” (or just over 1-3/4”) x 5-1/4”
A Day At The Farm Designer Paper
8-1/2” wide x 5-1/4” tall – cut into 3 sections 3-3/8” wide, 3” wide and 2-1/8” wide
And then you’ll need other cardstock, ribbon, etc for the front sentiment pieces and embellishments.
Tips
After folding the card base and opening it back up, add the inside sentiment panel cardstock.
Fold the card shut again and attach the left of the three designer papers to the top base cardstock section so that the right edge and corners line up and conceal the inside sentiment panel cardstock peeking out. (Be careful where you place your adhesive.) This paper should end up within 1/8″ approximately from all the cardstock edges it sits within.
Open the card back up again and add the other two designer paper pieces in the remaining sections so that everything looks evenly spaced.
Stamp the inside sentiment
Then punch or die-cut the front sentiment pieces, stamp the sentiment, layer the pieces, and add the sentiment. In the case of the banners, trim off any excess cardstock going beyond the edge.
Embellish with the Pastel Self-Adhesive Sequins.
For the “barn” card, you can see up above in the photo clip from the Live that the paper came from the upper right of the designer paper sheet 1″ down from the top.
You’ll also want to trim the white banner after stamping it. Then layer it onto the green banner and trim again so the green border goes all the way around. The banner length doesn’t matter much, but my punched white one measures 2-7/8″.
I added 4 gold sequins to finish it off.
The card with the large flowers in the corner came from the lower left corner of that same designer paper sheet (1/2″ from the bottom).
As I was putting it together during that Live, I discovered the lamb in the upper left had to get cut… through the head. Ouch! So that’s why I placed my sentiment banner strip in the other direction to cover up the rest of the lamb. Now when the card is open it only looks like that lamb is peeking out from behind the banner. I also attached the banner with a Dimensional under the left edge and Seal under the right.
I added 6 pink sequins to complete the card.
The last one uses the rolling hills design for the main designer paper panels. I added the animals from the designer paper which I cut out with the coordinating On The Farm Dies. Yes,… so if you decide to get the On The Farm Dies or even the bundle of stamps and dies (and your total order comes to at least $50 during Sale-a-Bration), just know that you’ll probably want to choose this designer paper pack for your free SAB pick.
I then colored about 19″ of Black/White Gingham Ribbon with the Daffodil Delight Blends Marker. After it dried, I wrapped it around and tied it in a bow.
I used the Layering Circle Dies (2-1/8″ diameter and 2-3/8″ diameter) for the sentiment which I added with Dimensionals to give the sentiment a bit of a lift but to also secure the ribbon in place.
I added 7 blue sequins to finish off the card.
I love team member Vy Tran’s take on this card which she shared here on her blog. It’s vertical and uses the paper in a way where you could get TWO cards from one sheet with sky, farm land, and animals. VERY fun!
And if you are on Facebook and are part of my Stamp Your Art Out Group (or want to join it), you’ll see that Susan Pollock Wormley and I were creating on the same wavelength. Be sure you are in that group, then click here to see her card. It’s a bit more stepped up than mine, but our cards are identical in many other ways. Hahaha! I absolutely LOVE her version, too!

A couple days ago, on Wednesday I shared a couple bright and fun Valentine cards using new products from the upcoming Jan-Apr 2023 Mini Catalog. And in the video I gave a peek at the related card that I’m sharing today…another Cut Flap-Fold Card with products from that Jan-Apr 2023 Mini Catalog AND from the 2023 Sale-a-Bration Brochure which are both debuting 1/5/23 (the Adorable Owls Stamp Set, the Alphabet A La Mode Dies, and the Dandy Designs Designer Paper).
Here is today’s card. Two of these items (the designer paper and the stamp set) are products you can earn for free with qualifying orders January 5 – February 28, 2023 because they are part of the Sale-a-Bration promotion. The Adorable Owls set is free with a $50 order. And the Dandy Designs paper is free with a $100 order.

Directions…
I highly recommend watching the video from Wednesday so you can see the basics and tips and tricks for putting together a card like this.
Cut and prepare all the supplies listed in the measurements. (Be sure to apply Adhesive Sheets adhesive behind the Mango Melody scrap before die-cutting the letters.)
After die-cutting the letters add the color and add Wink of Stella. After die-cutting the owl, color then add the Wink of Stella. Allow these to dry.
Stamp and die-cut the sentiment banner (words should be off to the right).
Die-cut the Basic Black Cardstock.
Assemble the card…
Add the designer paper strip.
Add the black cardstock.
Tie on the ribbon making sure to secure with adhesive under the section that will be covered by the owl layer.
Add the owl circle layer.
Then add the sentiment banner on the inside and trim off the excess hanging off the left edge.
Add the letters and the then the sequins.
These were the cards that I made and sent to the people in my Stampers With ART group with December birthdays. They are so fun and easy to make! But I’m officially out of Wink of Stella now after using the last of mine on these cards and the Valentines I shared on Wednesday. Hahaha! I even tried to revive my two pens with a bit of rubbing alcohol (as suggested by my viewers during the Live). But I’m just gonna need to buy more.
Have a fantastic New Year’s Eve. Enjoy… but also be safe on those roads!
