Here’s a card that may blow your mind. It’s called a Hexaflexagon. And it’s made from just one 2″ x 12″ strip of paper! A little background on this type of fun fold from Wikepedia… “In geometry, flexagons are flat models, usually constructed by folding strips of paper, that can be flexed or folded in certain ways to reveal faces besides the two that were originally on the back and front. Flexagons are usually square or rectangular or hexagonal. The discovery of the first flexagon, a trihexaflexagon, is credited to the British student Arthur H. Stone, who was studying at Princeton University in the United States in 1939.”
I love math! So I was very intrigued when I saw one that Joyce Batta shared in the Paper Pumpkin Fan Club on Facebook. And I started investigating. I created and shared a version yesterday that I then made with the February 2020 Lovely Day Paper Pumpkin kit. But I also wanted to put a video out there concentrating on JUST this fold alone. So I made a few other versions, and this never-ending fun fold became my project for my past Wednesday’s Facebook Live Online Paper Crafting Class.
I uploaded the recorded version of my Facebook Live video to my YouTube channel (since I know not everyone is ON Facebook). And then I was able to share it here in my blog post. Be sure to watch the video (you can just click on this image below if you are already on my blog), scroll through the close-up photos, check out the products list below, and then let me know if you have any questions.
I hope you enjoyed what I shared in this video. Below are measurements, close-up photos, and a product list for the cards I demonstrated.
