This is the last week my kids have of their 2019 summer vacation. Most of the schools in our area are on the same calendar. So teachers and staff are preparing for the students’ return…getting classrooms set up, take-home folders stuffed, lessons prepared, etc.
I was an elementary teacher for 13 years, and I always feel a bit of excitement at this time of year. Oh, how I loved putting my bulletin boards back up, rearranging the desks and furniture, smelling the new text books, visiting with everyone and hearing about their summer adventures, learning the new technology and curriculum being introduced, putting the students’ names on everything, laminating, and evening sharpening pencils.
Speaking of pencils…
I received an adorable 3-D swap from Sophie Prestrelle a couple incentive trips ago…
…and decided I HAD to recreate it and share it with you using the colorful, new Dinoroar Designer Paper. What a great gift this would make for someone heading back to school (a student, teacher, staff member,…) or for someone who loves pencils or dinosaurs. Hahaha!
It takes a bit of time to make a box, but it’s not difficult. I made two similar in size to Sophie’s. And then I expanded the dimensions and made a wider third box. Below are the instructions.
Measurements for the skinnier box:
- Lovely Lipstick (or Pretty Peacock) Cardstock
- 8-3/4″ x 4″ scored parallel to the long side at 3/8″, 1-7/8″, 2-1/4″ and at 1/4″ from the other end AND scored parallel to the short side at 3/8″, 3/4″ and at 3/8″ from the other end (see photo below)
- Basic Black Cardstock
- 7″ x 1-3/8″
- 7-5/8″ x 1-3/8″ scored at 1″ from each end
- 5/8″ x 2-5/8″
- Dinoroar Designer Paper
- 1-1/2″ x 12″ strip
- Whisper White Cardstock
- 1″ x 3″
- 2″ x 5/16″
Products I used: See below for a complete list of products I used linked to where you can find them in my online store.
Directions for the skinnier box:
- Score and cut out tabs from the Lovely Lipstick (or Pretty Peacock) Cardstock as shown. Use a 1/2″ Circle Punch to make the thumb slot.
- Assemble box using Tear & Tape Adhesive.
- Die-cut two pieces of Dinoroar paper with the Stitched Rectangle die (second from the largest skinny ones). Adhere the designer paper pieces to the 7″ x 1-3/8″ Basic Black Cardstock. Then adhere the 5/8″ x 2-5/8″ Basic Black. Add this to the box.
- Stamp sentiment on 1″ x 3″, then die-cut with the Stitched Rectangle die (smallest of the skinny ones). Adhere to the 5/8″ x 2-5/8″ Basic Black.
- Stamp numbers on 2″ x 5/16″. Draw in a hyphen with the Basic Black marker. Trim, then attach on top of the word “future” using Mini Dimensionals while at the same time attaching the leaf trinket with Glue Dots.
- For the 7-5/8″ x 1-3/8″ Basic Black Cardstock, cut down the middle of the ends just to the 1″ score lines. Punch small holes at each end – one where the cut and score line intersect and two at the ends of the score lines.
- Add a rubber band to each end: loop around one half of the end, then twist and loop around the other half.
- Insert pencils. Put pencils into the box and close the box.
Measurements for the wider box:
- Mossy Meadow Cardstock
- 8-3/4″ x 6-3/4″ scored parallel to the long side at 3/8″, 3-1/4″, 3-5/8″ and at 1/4″ from the other end AND scored parallel to the short side at 3/8″, 3/4″ and at 3/8″ from the other end (see photo below)
- Basic Black Cardstock
- 7″ x 2-3/4″
- 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″
- 7-5/8″ x 2-3/4″ scored at 1″ from each end
- 5/8″ x 2-5/8″
- Dinoroar Designer Paper
- 3″ x 12″ strip
- Scrap for fussy cutting a dinosaur image.
- Whisper White Cardstock
- 1″ x 3″
- 2″ x 5/16″

TRIMMER BLADES
The final shipment of Stampin’ Trimmer Cutting Blades (item 126995) arrived early. We expected to receive this shipment from our vendor in September and therefore told you we would provide another batch of blades in September. However, because the blades arrived early and we do not want to hold them back from you, we are going to make these final blades available on Tuesday, August 27, at 10:00 am (MT), and when they sell out they will be gone for good. Quantity limit will be 3 packs. But these probably will sell out quickly. So you’ll want to order right away.”
