Today I have three more alternate projects to share that I made with the Beary Comforting Paper Pumpkin kit. And today is the last day to sign up for (or have an active subscription for) Paper Pumpkin so you get in on this month’s January kit. And if your subscription is through me, you’ll be able to enjoy exclusive ideas shared in video tutorials from the PPX Crew of six talented Stampin’ Up! demonstrators.
Here are a few more that I created with this past month’s kit, December 2020 Beary Comforting Kit: a baby-themed scrapbook page layout and cute dresser drawer gift box AND an adorable “get well soon” fun fold card. I’ll start with the page layout which would make a great new baby announcement page. All the stats (weight, height, sex, name…) could be written on the sentiment strips below the bear.
Extra products I used… See below for a complete list of extra products I used linked to where you can find them in my online store.
Measurements…
- Calypso Coral 12×12 Cardstock (from the Subtles pack)
- Two pieces that are 12″ x 12″
- Basic Gray 12×12 Cardstock (from the Neutrals pack)
- Two pieces that are 11-1/4″ x 11-1/4″
- Artistry Blooms Designer Paper
- Two pieces that are 11-1/8″ x 11-1/8″
- Gold Foil Sheets
- 3-1/2″ x 3-5/8″
- Gold Metallic Edge Ribbon
- 13″
- 7″
Directions…
- Prepare all the pieces according the measurements above. Since only the edge of the Basic Gray shows, feel free to remove the inner portion of the cardstock layers. This generous amount of cardstock could be used on another project later AND it lessens the weight of the pages a bit.
- Attach the designer paper to the Basic Gray. Then position all the closed and sealed envelopes (photo mats). Adhere these photo mat being careful not to put adhesive near the outer edges.
- Trim the koalas, add them to the photo mats, and add Gold Gilded Gems.
- Add the 13″ strand of ribbon by attaching the ends on the back side of the page layer.
- Add the striped cardstock layer to the Gold Foil layer. Stamp the “Hooray” and attach to the bear (tucked under the arm) with Dimensionals. Add the bear with Dimensionals.
- Position the bear layer and the sentiment strips. Then adhere them to the page. (I didn’t do this, but I recommend journaling on the strips before adding them to the page.)
- Attach the heart with a Dimensional, the 7″ of ribbon tied in a bow with a Glue Dot or two, and the Gold Gilded Gems.
- Add these to the Calypso Coral 12×12 pieces.
- Add photos and any more journaling to finish off the pages.
The pages above were inspired by this adorable dresser drawer gift box. I could totally see this box filled with some soft little baby gifts and given (along with the prepared scrapbook pages) to the parents of a newborn.
Extra products I used… See below for a complete list of extra products I used linked to where you can find them in my online store.
Measurements…
- Striped card base
- Two pieces that are 4″ x 5-1/2″ (from two cards)
- Soft Sea Foam card base
- 4″ x 5-1/2″
- Gold Metallic Edge Ribbon
- 24″
- Three pieces cut to 10″ each
Directions…
- Prepare all the pieces according the measurements above.
- Assemble three matchbox Love You Always Treat Boxes. Use a hole punching tool such as a Crop-o-Dile to punch a hole in the front of each drawer.
- Fold each of the three 10″ ribbon strands. Tie an overhand knot onto each to create a loop about 1″ long. Use a Q-tip to push each loop from the inside to the outside of each drawer. Make sure the knots are tight and trim the ends.
- Using Tear & Tape stack and secure the treat boxes to form a set of drawers.
- Connect the card base pieces as shown using Tear & Tape Adhesive. Make sure the pieces are perfectly lined up…edges are straight.
- Then starting at the top, secure the middle section of the striped section. Fold and bring the sides down – again double checking the alignment each and every time. Use a Bone Folder to help form the strong creases. Wrap the bottom around and connect the ends to the box. The tighter you wrap, the better it will all look.
- Trim up the koalas and attach them to the two other bears as shown. Score two of the larger sentiment label strips from the kit at 3/4″, 1-1/4″, 2″ and 2-1/2″. Fold into support pieces and secure with a bit of Tear & Tape.
- Attach the supports and bears to the top of the box with even more Tear & Tape.
- Wrap and tie the 24″ strand of ribbon into a tight bow and maneuver into place.
- Fill the drawers with gifts and give to the expecting parents as a gift.
This last alternate project idea is an easel “get well” card. What a fun way to let that friend know you are thinking about them.
Extra products I used… See below for a complete list of extra products I used linked to where you can find them in my online store.
Measurements…
- Soft Sea Foam Cardstock
- 4″ x 5-1/4″
- Basic Black Cardstock
- 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored parallel to the short side at 2-3/4″ and 5-1/2″
- Blackberry Bliss Striped Ribbon
- 7″
- 14″
Tips or Directions…
- Prepare all the pieces according the measurements above. Add the Soft Sea Foam layer to the inside of the card. Wrap the 14″ ribbon around the front, tie in a knot, and trim the ends.
- Stamp the sentiment pieces and tie the 7″ ribbon into a bow. Set aside.
- With the striped “square” piece in front of you (lines going horizontally), mark one inch down on the left side and one inch down on the right using a pencil so you can erase if you need to later. Mark 1/4″ in on the left top and right top. Cut to connect the marks and remove the corners. This will give you the look of a 3-D box. Put a score line through where the 1″ marks are too if you wish. Then bend slightly. This will help with the 3-D look.
- Use your trimmer or an X-Acto knife to cut a slit in the top of the box. Insert a tiny piece of tissue.
- Use an X-Acto knife to cut around the left arm of the bear. Position the bear as shown, then add Dimensionals to the back bottom area (from the score line down). Adhere to the front of the card, and bend the Basic Black cardstock at the 2-3/4″ score line just to make sure everything is working and the adhesives are where they should be.
- Add the rectangular sentiment piece with Dimensionals to the inside of the card about half-way up. This will act as a ledge for when the card opens and forms an easel. So be sure it it straight and parallel to the bottom edge of the card.
- Add the circular sentiment and Gold Gilded Gems to finish off the card.
- Send to an ill friend to brighten their day.
I made a few and gifted them to some of my Paper Pumpkin subscribers.

Hi,
I am a big fan of yours and watch your videos and read your Blogs often. I am trying to make the “get well” card from Paper Pumpkin December 2020 “Beary Comforting” that you listed above. It’s unclear to me what “striped” paper I am to use ? Is it the card itself? If I cut the card (with the strips going horizontal ) the card is too tall ? Not sure why I am not getting this but I would love it if you could help me when you get a minute..
Thank, Patti
Thanks Patti. It’s not from a card base. It’s a layer that is in the kit. It’s already cut to a rectangle. All you should need to do is trim the corners.
I enjoy your projects and videos so much. This month’s PP Alternatives are the best I have seen. You are incredibly creative. Thanks so much for sharing.
YOu’re sweet. Thank you Becky!
