Last night during my Stampers With ART Online Team Event I shared a couple ways to use water on sponged-ink backgrounds to lighten and create texture and layers. And I’m now sharing those ideas with YOU today. These cards all feature the Tasteful Touches Stamp Set and coordinating Tasteful Labels Dies from the new In Good Taste Suite.
I just showed live on YouTube about an hour ago how to build these beautiful, bold greeting cards with the sponging and waterlifting techniques. And now I’m sharing that video here in my blog post. Be sure to watch the video by clicking here (or you can just click on this image below if you are already on my blog), scroll through the close-up photos that follow, check out the measurements & products list below, and then let me know if you have any questions.
I hope you enjoyed what I shared in this video. Below are measurements, close-up photos, and a product list for what I demonstrated. (Please subscribe to my YouTube channel so you can get updates when I share and go live).
Products I used… See below for a complete list of products linked to where you can find them in my online store.
Measurements per card…
- Shimmery White Cardstock
- Two pieces 4” x 5-1/4”
- Coordinating Colored Cardstock for sentiment
- Scrap for stamping and die-cutting sentiment
- Coordinating Colored Cardstock for card base
- 4-1/4” x 11” scored parallel to short end at 5-1/2”
Here are close-up photos.

Shimmery White Cardstock worked best for me. Thick Whisper White Cardstock can be used but be sure to mask with long sticky note paper. The painters tape when peeled off of this one removed the top layer of the cardstock.

You may also get more warping since Whisper White absorbs the water a bit more.

Watercolor Paper works, too. But it has more texture. So the sponging doesn’t look as smooth.

These are the three done with white embossing powder.

And this one is the card done without embossing…a bit quicker to make.

I hope you enjoyed what I shared today!

Love these pretty cards. Great video with so many extra hints.. thank you!,
Glad you enjoyed this Jan. ? Thanks!
Love these cards! Can you use glossy paper also.
I only use SU’s current products. And I don’t have glossy on hand right now. My guess would be yes. Give it a try. The painter’s tape would peel off well, and the sponging would be super easy to blend. You’ll just have to make sure the ink is dry before embossing.
I love this project, Rachel! Thanks for the tutorial – I can’t wait to choose colors and try this!
I’m excited to see what you come up with Janet!
I am looking to set up a room like that I’m still we may have to move her to get the kind of room I want. Yours looks great
Thanks Cheryl. It makes me happy…got the room makeover almost 4 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hwRsQfz34Y&t=11s
Hi Rachel, I’m a demo from Australia watching your video replay for the first time. Love your personality and your beautiful cards. I hope that you do not discard the cards that were torn. I could see them used as a recessed panel card, that way covering all of the boo boo’s. Just might case one of your cards for my next class. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
I don’t have the heart to throw them away. But sometimes I don’t have the time either. I have a friend that takes my “boo boo’s” and puts time into creating with them if she feels inspired. So I at least know that they are going to someone who might give them some love.
Thanks for your kind words and sweet comment Juliann.
