It’s time for another Mystery Stamping event! If you’ve never seen a mystery stamping presentation before, it’s a lot of fun. You create with the supplies in your craft room by following a series of step-by-step clues that are put before you.

So go into your crafting space, play the video below (or click HERE if you do not see the video), and follow my “clues” to try to create something similar to this style card. Then scroll down to see samples of finished versions of this fun card that I made. Thanks for tuning in! Okay…Get ready for some mystery stamping!

I’m assuming if you are scrolling down that you have watched the video. Wasn’t that fun?! I shared four finished card samples in the video. Below are photos of 3 of them – the ones I created.

By the way…the supply list at the end of this post includes some of the main products featured in the cards. These items are linked to where you can find them in my online store. I didn’t list adhesives and tools like I usually do.

Here are the clues I shared in the video.

Materials to gather:

  • Designer/Patterned pack with two patterns (one very subtle and one very dominant)
  • Colored base cardstock that coordinates with both patterned papers AND blends in well with the subtle one)
  • Light neutral cardstock (white or vanilla)
  • Ribbon (that coordinates with dominant patterned paper)
  • Trimmer w/scoring blade
  • Bone Folder
  • Snips
  • Small hole punch for ribbon to fit through
  • Pencil, ruler & eraser
  • Adhesives
  • Stamps, Ink, and Embellishments…

Clue #1: This will be a portrait style card with the opening on the right. Cut initial pieces…

  • Subtle Designer/Patterned Paper
    • 4” wide x 5-1/4” tall (9.9 cm wide x 14.2 cm)
  • Dominant Designer/Patterned Paper
    • 1-3/4” wide x 4-3/4” tall (4.4 cm wide x 12.9 cm tall)
  • Colored base cardstock
    • 5-1/2” x 11” (14.8 cm x 27.5 cm)
    • 2” x 5” (5 cm x 13.5 cm)
  • Light neutral cardstock
    • 4” x 5-1/4” (9.9 cm x 14.2 cm)
    • Strip or shape that fits your chosen front sentiment (you may cut later)
  • Ribbon
    • 17” (45 cm)
    • 2” (5 cm)

Clue #2: Position your 5-1/2” x 11” (14.8 cm x 27.5 cm) card base piece in your Stampin’ Trimmer in the landscape orientation with the long top edge touching the top edge of the Trimmer. Score parallel to the short side at 4-1/4” (10.5 cm).

Slide the card base over a bit and score at 8-1/2” (21 cm) but don’t move it afterwards. While keeping the card base in this spot, position the cutting blade 2” (6 cm) from the top & cut from that spot upward.

Then slide the card base over a little bit more and score at 10-3/4” (26.8 cm) but don’t move it afterwards. While keeping the cardstock in place, position the cutting blade 3” (8.5 cm) from the top & cut from that spot upwards.

Clue #3: Keep the card base positioned in the same way you had it in the trimmer. With a pencil, mark the bottom of the two lightly so you can see them and erase them later.

Use a ruler and pencil to connect these two cut mark points with a light line. Use your scissors/snips to cut from the right edge to the first point. Then use your scissors/snips or trimmer to cut along the diagonal line and remove that upper right section of cardstock. The part that sticks out on the right will form the front pocket part of the card.

Clue #4: Start with the card base positioned in the same way you had it in the trimmer. Crease the three score lines (use a Bone Folder to help): The 4-1/4” (10.5 cm) becomes a mountain fold (the crease should come towards you) and the two others become valley folds. Fold completely and flatten all those creases. This portrait style card base should now open on the right and have an extra extension on the front lower right that forms a pocket.

Clue #5: Unfold the pocket temporarily and adhere the 4” x 5-1/4” (9.9 cm x 14.2 cm) subtle designer/patterned paper to the front of the card. And now use strong adhesive to glue the bottom edge and tucked tab edge of the pocket down in place.

Clue #6: Time to work on a separate piece…Hold your 1-3/4” x 4-3/4” (4.4 cm wide x 12.9 cm tall) dominant designer/patterned paper vertically (in portrait orientation). Punch a hole in the top so it’s centered and about ¼” (.5 cm) in from the top edge.

Clue #7: Add some Seal or Tear & Tape just below the hole on the back side. Feed about ½” of the 2” (1 cm of the 5 cm) ribbon through the hole from the front and connect it to this adhesive. Add more adhesive in the same spot (on top of the ribbon you just stuck down). From the front, loosely loop the ribbon over the top of the paper and stick the end down. You should have a small loop of ribbon at the top of your designer/patterned paper.

Clue #8: Adhere this dominant designer/patterned paper strip to the 2”x 5” (5 cm x 13.5 cm) piece of cardstock. Slide your newly created bookmark into the pocket.

Clue #9: Grab the longer length of ribbon. Position the middle of it vertically on the inside of the card. Close the card. Wrap the two ends around the front left area of the card and tie it together firmly with a knot. (Don’t adhere the ribbon. You will want to be able to shift where the knot sits.) Shift the ribbon so it lies near the left edge (where the card folds). Trim the ends.

Clue #10: If you have an inside sentiment, stamp it on the 4” x 5-1/4” (9.9 cm x 14.2 cm) neutral cardstock. Then adhere this layer to the inside of the card. Stamp your front sentiment on a strip or shape (cut, punched or die-cut) of neutral cardstock. Attach it to the front of the card on or near the pocket area under the bookmark. Then shift the knot of the ribbon so it is in alignment with the front sentiment.

Add other imagery, die-cuts and/or embellishments to finish your card!
