It was fun to be back in my routine doing another Online Paper Crafting Class via Facebook Live this past Wednesday. I was super excited to share an updated version of my Dragonfly Closure Card that I featured back on April 6, 2018. So I used current products this time: the Butterfly Beauty Dies, the Perennial Essence Designer Paper and Vellum Cardstock, and the Good Morning Magnolia Stamp Set and shared how to adapt that same technique to this wider butterfly die that is available now. Making the front of the card a bit narrower than the base is the trick! See how the wings extend beyond?
I then uploaded the recorded version of my Facebook Live video to my YouTube channel (since I know not everyone is ON Facebook). Be sure to watch the video (you can just click on this image below if you are already on my blog), check out the products list below, scroll through the close-up photos, and then let me know if you have any questions.
OH! I also shared peeks of some new 2019 Holiday Catalog products debuting on September 4 that I received on Stampin’ Up!’s Greek Isles Incentive Trip. So you’ll want to view this video just for that reason alone.
I hope you enjoyed the card I made in this video! And I hope you enjoyed seeing all the product peeks. Below are measurements and close-up photos.
Products I used… See below for a complete list of products linked to where you can find them in my online store.
Measurements…
- Basic Black Cardstock
- 3” x 4” scrap for die-cutting butterfly
- Whisper White Thick Cardstock
- 8-1/2” x 5-1/2” scored at 4-1/4” and folded in half for card base…a 1/2” by 4-1/4” section is then removed from both the right and left of the card front so the front flap is 4-1/2” x 4-1/4”
- Perennial Essence Designer Paper
- 4” x 3-1/8”
- 5-1/4” x 4”
- Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock
- 3” x 4” scrap of pink for die-cutting butterfly
- Scrap of green for punching a leaf
- Vellum Cardstock
- Scrap for punching a leaf
Below are photos of two Dragonfly Closure Cards I made and shared back on April 6, 2018. The wing span isn’t as wide, so the front of the card doesn’t have to be altered to bring the Classic Label Punch slot in further as in the card with the butterfly above.

Love your butterfly and dragon fly cards!! Your video was great! Can’t wait to make them. The Holiday catalog looks amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much Pam! ?
Gorgeous! Would this idea work with a big flower, like the daisy punch?
Thanks Tania. It may. But to close it, you’d have several petals to pull in.
Such a beautiful butterfly card!!! Can you tell me what the dimensions of the label punch are? How long and how wide? I have the paper but not that punch. Hoping to improvise with one of the stitched rectangle dies.
Thank you! What a wonderful trip for you and your sister!
Thanks so much Rebecca!
You could definitely make this work with the narrow stitched rectangle die. If you find that the initial hole isn’t long enough (mine is 2-1/4″ long), then you can make it longer by shifting the die and cutting again.
I absolutely love the butterfly card. I’ve been following you for a while and I love the cards that you make and have made a few. Thank you for sharing your passion .
