School starts soon for my boys. So as a family we have been a bit crazy here getting in our last minute must-do’s…sports physicals, school forms, clothes and school supply shopping, multiple orientation events for my 9th grader, activities with friends and family to enjoy these last days of summer vacation, etc. And then on top of it, marching band is in full swing for my 10th grader. So he has been EXTRA busy with practices sometimes lasting up to 10 hours in a day.
Yesterday I was blessed to be a part of this marching band experience by being a volunteer/chaperone for their parade performance at the State Fair. It was a short performance with a thunderstorm canceling the event about 15 minutes in. But they can all say that they did it since they were at the front and marched for about 10 of those 15 minutes. And the hours before and after (we waited out the storm inside the busses) were wonderful too as we got to venture out and experience the fair.
Here are a few photos.
Nick was in the back row. He’s the bass drummer with the sunglasses.
I spent the non-parade time with my sister Renee and friend Rachel B who also were there as volunteers/chaperones.
The busy days continue even outside of the crazy family must-do’s. Today and tomorrow I am in the midst of a Stampin’ Up! leadership conference being held virtually called BackStage@Home. So not a lot of downtime right now. But lots of fun for sure!
Today I thought I’d share a couple cards that I created with the Beauty of Tomorrow Ephemera Pack pieces and practice pieces from when I was playing with the alcohol ink art technique last month. (Some of you may have caught that YouTube Live or saw the recording here in my July 14th post. These pretty pieces are shown around the 58 minute mark.) All I did was add these vellum layers over Basic White Cardstock to get the brightest of the color.
Products I used… See below for a complete list of products linked to where you can find them in my online store.
Both cards are blank on the inside, so I can really personalize them later for whatever occasion.
Measurements
- Basic White Thick Cardstock
- 4-1/4” x 11” scored parallel to short side at 5-1/2”
- 3-3/4″ x 5″
- Vellum Cardstock
- 3-3/4″ x 5″
- Gold 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon
- Two pieces that are 5″
Directions
- Click here and watch the video I shared in my July 14th post so you can learn how to create this fun pink background with the Gold Leafing accenting. Adhere that piece onto the 3-3/4″ x 5″ Basic White Cardstock using sponged on Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
- Adhere the flower from the ephemera pack onto the front using sponged on Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
- Add seal to one side of one of the ribbons. Wrap that ribbon across the lower front of the pink layer about 1/8″ from the bottom edge. Secure the ends around to the back. Attach this layer to the front of the card base using Dimensionals.
- Tie a knot with the other ribbon piece. Trim the ends, and attach to the lower right using a couple Glue Dots.
Easy and oh so pretty!
This second one is a bit more complicated but still simple enough to duplicate. It’s like a shaker card but without the shaker bits.

- Cut the center away from the Basic White layer. Cut to create a 1/4″ border. Glue this to the window layer (which is slightly smaller so it doesn’t go beyond the white frame. Allow to dry.

Beautiful card! And I want to say you should make time to enjoy the marching band parent activities whenever you can! My son is a drummer as well and marched all through high school and college at the University of Maryland and it was the greatest experience EVER for all of us! He just graduated and I will miss it so!!!!!
Thanks Brenda!
Yes…it’s been incredible so far!
Thanks Rachel. School in Ontario starts Sept 7th. I remember well these harried weeks and I was the Kindetgarten teacher. So much more busy as a parent. Enjoy your years with your boys. They will grow up way too soon. Love the cards. Sending prayers for your husband too.
Thank you so much Pam! And hugs to you for your years as a teacher. Children are our most precious commodity.
