We’ve been caught up in lots of festivities this weekend (and last). Our oldest is now 12 years old!

He convinced us to let him have just one more “kid party.” So on Friday several of Nick’s friends came over. We fed them pizza, pop and carrots (gotta give them SOMETHING healthy) then hauled them all to the local rollerskating rink. Despite all the falls, bruises and bumps, they all had a great time and didn’t want to leave. After the fun at the rink, we drove them back to the house for fisherman-themed cupcakes and a movie (the newly released to Redbox “Captain Underpants” which of course they all enjoyed).

Here are a few of the cupcakes I decorated for the party. (Thank you, Pinterest!) Nick has developed an obsession with fishing these past few months.

Most  of the kids slept over, too. (Yes, the crazy fun continued. LOL) And in the morning, I served them cereal and bacon. I’m so glad I didn’t make anything more elaborate, because making this “simple” breakfast took much more time than I had originally thought. And many of the boys ate WAY more than I had planned on. I had to cook up 5 packages of bacon!

Nick really enjoyed his three parties – the one with my side of the family last weekend, his kid party/sleepover Friday and the one with my husband’s side yesterday afternoon.

And I think he is feeling pretty grateful for all his new gifts too.

My goodness! He is growing too fast.

I have to say that even though it was a loud house for 17 hours, even though we had bathrooms and floors to clean when the kids left, and even though some odd smells lingered and we had to air out the house, I secretly loved every minute of it. It won’t be long and Nick won’t be wanting his parents to come hang out with him at a roller-skating rink. He won’t want me singing loudly to pop music with his friends. And the loud craziness of this age will be gone. What a joy it was to be in these moments with him. Happy birthday, Nickers!
