We had a weekend filled with birthday festivities. OH!… the fun we had!
Here are the invitations I made for Friday evening's "friend" party.
Pokémon was the theme, of course. 😉 And I created these invites with Stampin' Up! product, the help of my printer, and a White Signo Gel pen. (See the end of this post for a Stampin' Up! supply list linked to my online store.)
Measurements:
- Island Indigo Cardstock: 11" x 4-1/4" folded in half for the card base
- Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper (sky scene pattern): 5-1/4" x 4"
- Real Red Cardstock: scraps for punching circles for poké ball
- Whisper White Cardstock: scraps for punching circles for poké ball & full sheets run through the printer and then cut into a 5-1/4" x 4" piece for each invite (Click here to download the document I made for this party. Click here to download a PDF of it.)
- Basic Black Cardstock: scraps for punching circles for poké ball
Tips/Directions:
- Punch one full 2" circle from the Whisper White scrap. Punch a half 2" circle from the Real Red scrap and another from the Basic Black scrap. Attach the Real Red 1/2 circle to the Basic Black 1/2 circle so that a little black shows from under the straight edge of the red. Then attach this to the top 1/2 of the Whisper White full circle.
- Punch a 1/2" circle from the Basic Black scrap. Punch two different size circles with the Owl Builder Punch from the Whisper White scrap. Layer these three little circles onto each other (the top white one on my poké ball is attached with a glue dot so it sticks up a little higher). Then add this to the 2" layered circle piece as shown.
- Attach the Serene Scenery designer paper to the front of the card. Stamp the swirling stars image in Real Red ink onto the designer paper so that it is coming down from the upper left corner and trailing to the lower right.
- Draw a little "shine" accent mark on the poké ball and add this to the front of the card using Dimensionals. Accent the swirling stars with a few rhinestones.
- Stamp the swirling stars on the printed Whisper White invite layer, then adhere to the inside of the card.
Luke still has to wait until February 7th to OFFICIALLY turn double digits, but we celebrated his 10th birthday early to avoid Super Bowl Sunday weekend. Plus, I am now going to be out of town on a crafting retreat. (I'm so excited!)
My husband, Tim and I picked up Luke and Nick and 8 of Luke's friends from school on Friday so we could get an early start. We drove them to the Tropical Adventure Indoor Playground at the Shoreview Community Center. They played hard for over an hour, and then we headed to our house.
This place is about 30 minutes away, so the boys were starving by the time we got back. Thankfully my parents (who always save the day somehow) picked up the pizzas while we were away. Mom even put them in the oven about 5 minutes before our return.
Ahhh…food! And despite the discussion I had with my boys the morning before, I put out carrots too. AND guess what? It WAS a good idea, because over half the kids chose to eat those healthy little vegetables!
After that we had gift opening time. Luke remembered to thank each friend and was super happy to get all those fun toys.
And then we sang "Happy Birthday" and ate cake and ice cream. I baked the gluten-free chocolate cake from a couple mixes. And thanks to Pinterest and Party City (for selling single colored M&Ms) I decorated it to look like a poké ball.
(I have to admit the red and black food coloring in the M&Ms disgusted me a bit, but I can't deprive my kiddos of fun food ALL the time.)
Half the kids had already gotten picked up by their parents by the time Tim remembered (and reminded me) that we forgot to give them their party favors. Ugh! So now Luke has to bring a few to school on Monday.
These were the party favors I put together. I bagged up miniature pokémon characters in Gusseted Cellophane Bags and tied them shut with Real Red Stitched Satin Ribbon. I put these and some red, white and yellow candy into Pokémon printed paper cups – all from Party City.
I also personalized containers of glitter putty and added them to the containers.
Luke attended his friend Joshua's birthday party Saturday afternoon, so this gave Tim and my dad some time to un-box and assemble Luke's big gift (his drum set!) while he was away.
The family party began just a couple hours after Luke returned. He posed for me with his poké ball gift and balloon before everyone arrived. He knew he was getting a drum set from us (and both sets of grandparents), but was told that it wouldn't arrive in time for the party. He had no clue it was already here…
…and was super happy to find out it WAS!
The fun continued after everyone went home, because cousin Robbie stayed for a late night sleepover. What a great weekend!
Even if your weekend wasn't filled with parties like ours was, I hope it was enjoyable!
