The Floating & Fluttering Stamp Set & coordinating Fluttering Dies were introduced in our January – June 2021 Mini Catalog.
And they were designed to make the “floating frame” technique a little easier. That is why the images of the butterflies and leaves are in a grouping and why there are two identical framelit dies in the die set – to make the die-cutting go quickly. For this technique you want to stamp and die-cut (or punch) several different images. Then you want to arrange them randomly all over the surface of a approx. quarter sheet size piece of cardstock which will act as a guide for building the floating frame.
I’ve demonstrated this technique (shown on the two cards on the left in this Stampin’ Up! catalog photo above) back in April of 2019. Click here and scroll to the 11:30 minute mark to view my demonstration of the technique in this video. I don’t have any written directions for my cards I’m sharing today. So be sure to watch this video a few times to get the steps down.
Here are the two cards I put together using the Floating & Fluttering Bundle. Notice the frames aren’t full. I did this on purpose to make it feel like the butterflies are flying upward across the card. Another benefit to this look though is it takes less time to make. I only had to stamp, color and die-cut two sets of images for each card.
Again, I’m not providing directions, but the how-to video will give enough tips. Just have your Press ‘N Seal® and the other supplies listed below ready, cut your pieces following the measurements given, and create!

Measurements for the white framed card:
- Basic White Cardstock
- 3-3/4” x 5” cut 1″ in on all four sides (to act as the guide for the frame)
- 3-3/4″ x 5″
- 1-1/2″ x 2-3/4″ for the sentiment piece in the middle
- 4″ x 5-1/4″ for the inside layer
- Scraps for stamping and die-cutting butterflies and leaves
- Basic Black Cardstock
- 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” scored parallel to short side at 4-1/4
- Coastal Cabana Cardstock
- 4″ x 5-1/4″
- 1-3/4″ x 3″ to place in the middle after the floating frame pieces have been attached to the 3-3/4″ x 5″ white layer

Under the floating images are Mini Dimensionals. I used the Black Mini Dimensionals for the black frame and white Mini Dimensionals for the white frame.
This stamp set doesn’t come with sentiments so I used one of my favorite word images from the Rooted In Nature stamp set (which is on the Last Chance (retiring) products list.
