I saw a set of 4 straw-handled boxes shared in a Facebook group for Stampin' Up! demonstrators this summer made by a gal from Germany, Melanie Sicker. Her boxes were each 3 cm wide…a little smaller than this one below and much smaller than the one above. I took her pattern and adjusted the measurements to create my versions in inches. For this box below which is 2 inches wide I was able to get two from a 1/2 sheet of 12×12 cardstock!

This one became one of the make-n-takes for my demonstrator online team event this month. Normally I don't share the videos I create for these events, but I decided it was time to update the sample videos on my information page about the training I offer my Stampers With ART community**.

Here is that video. I recommend watching it so you can learn the tips and tricks for assembling the box.

And here are the other versions of this 2" wide box that I shared in that video.

If you don't have any straws, substituting ribbon will work with this style box pattern, too.

Want the bigger box?

By putting two pieces of cardstock together, this box could become even larger. I experimented yesterday and made this happen with some of our pretty Christmas paper, a full sheet of 12×12 cardstock and an additional piece 5" x 8-1/2". From this I was able to get my 4" wide box.

Watch the video first so the following tips make sense…

The 12×12 cardstock is the "arrow" end of the pattern. Because this size paper wouldn't fit diagonally into my trimmer, I used a ruler and a bone folder to make the score lines in the two upper corner sections.

Here is what that 12×12 piece turned into after cutting and scoring the sections the way I instruct to do in the video. Only in this size box, the tab parts are 1/2" wide instead of 3/8" wide. And the main score lines are at 4" and 8" in each direction.

My 5" x 8-1/2" piece I scored in 1/2" from each of the long edges and from the top. Then I scored 4" from the bottom and trimmed out the sections shown. I used this top tab to attach this piece to the other piece…

And then I punched the holes at 1-1/2" instead of 9/16" (again check out the video and you'll know what I mean by this). The green designer paper strips are 1-1/8" x 3-3/4". The red ones are 1-1/4" x 3-3/4".

OH! And to get the large rhinestones on the ends of the straws, I stuffed each end with some tissue. And then…

…I sealed it with Fine Tip Glue and added the rhinestone before the glue dried.

It makes the straw a little prettier.
