Mediterranean Achiever’s Blog Hop August 2016: Holiday Catalog/Catalogue Sneak Peek… #stampyourartout #stampinup - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

Welcome to another Mediterranean Achievers Blog Hop! The theme for this month is: Holiday Catalog/Catalogue Sneak Peek. So follow along and check out all the other blogs in the hop (click on the names of other blog participants in the list below) so you can see a great collection of hand-stamped cards and paper crafting projects that show off new products that will be available September 1st in the new 2016 Holiday Catalog. Oh, the creativity you will see as you hop from blog to blog! Have fun.

One of the many great benefits of being a demonstrator is being able to view new catalogs early AND purchase products earlier than the general public. Following this blog hop will allow you to get peeks into what will become available soon. And if you need to get your hands on these products sooner than September, you can do so by purchasing them in the Starter Kit. 😉

One of my favorite pages in this catalog (p. 9) features the Star of Light stamp set and coordinating set of Starlight thinlits dies. The images and dies are beautiful! You'll fall in love with the detail and elegance. PLUS purchasing these products together as a bundle will save you 10%.

This card below is super quick and easy to put together. In fact if it hadn't been one of my team make-n-takes during our August online team event, I might have used this as my Christmas card this year.

  • Basic Black cardstock: 10-3/8" x 4-1/4" scored at 5-1/2" for the card base (the front half is shorter so that the ribbon can be seen when the card is closed and open)
  • Whisper White cardstock: 3-3/4" x 4-3/8" and scrap that is at least 2-1/4" x 2-1/2" for the star
  • Dapper Denim cardstock: 3-5/8" x 4-1/4"
  • Smoky Slate cardstock: 3-5/8" x 4-1/4"
  • Vellum cardstock: scrap that is at least 4" x 3-1/4"
  • Silver 1/8" Ribbon: about 13-14"

Tips:

  • You may want to invest in the Big Shot Die Brush and the Precision Plate if you don't already have them. I didn't include them in the products above, because like the Stampin' Trimmer and Big Shot these are just basic tools that you'll just want to have on hand. The Precision Plate replaces one of the two cutting mats and should be used when die-cutting detailed shapes (like the white star). The Big Shot Die Brush helps to remove the die-cut shapes from the dies.
  • Allow your white ink to dry before assembling your card. It is a pigment ink and takes a bit longer than the water-based Classic inks.
  • To attach your star, first attach your white one to your vellum one using a Glue Dot. Then attach the entire star ensemble to the Dapper Denim piece using another Glue Dot making sure it doesn't show from the front. Adding the Metallic Enamel Shape silver star afterwards will cover up the stickiness from the Glue Dot that was under the white.
  • Since there are both silver AND gold stars in the Metallic Enamel Shapes, you may want to invest in the Gold 1/8" Ribbon too if you are going to make a bunch of these as your Christmas cards. That way you will get 30 cards from one set of enamel shapes instead of just 15. (See bottom photo to see the gold version.)

Here are a few more close up photos. I love the detail in these dies and stamp images!

This is the "gold version" of this card for those of you who are considering making a bunch of these as your Christmas cards. I personally like the silver version better. But you can just send the gold ones off to those relatives who don't appreciate your hand-crafted cards anyway. Hehehe (Ooops! Did I say that?)
