City Sights is one of the newer kits in Stampin’ Up!’s Kits Collection. I love the whole watercolor downtown look and feel of these cards. So I purchased one and had to play!

City Sights Kit from the Kits Collection by Stampin’ Up! - Stampin’ Up!® - Stamp Your Art Out! www.stampyourartout.com

I rearranged the parts and pieces and came up with a way to expand the number of cards you can get from this kit simply by adding some extra cardstock, envelopes, and sentiment images. I came up with a way to turn two kit cards into five. And doing this with the whole kit will turn all eight cards into 20! Below is a complete list of products I used. And each of them are linked to where you can find them in my online store.

This kit comes with adhesives, but I added regular Dimensionals in my supply list. These larger ones can be easier to work with and extra Dimensionals may be needed when making more cards with a kit. I added Multipurpose Liquid Glue because this adhesive will be easier to apply to thin strips. I added Seal Adhesive because it’s quicker to apply than the Tear & Tape adhesive that comes in the kit. And making 20 cards instead of 8 may require more than the kit’s tape roll provides. One more thing to note is that though the kit comes with stamps and ink, this kit doesn’t come with any sentiment stamps. The words (with multiple language choices) are on punched out circle and banner pieces. That is the reason I added in the Simply Said Stamp Set. But you could really use any word image stamps you may have on hand.

Initial measurements for five cards made from the supplies of two
Quadruple this to complete the whole kit.

  • Pebbled Path Cardstock
    • Five 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ pieces scored parallel to the short side at 4-1/4”
  • Kit card bases
    • Each cut to two 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ pieces

Directions for turning two kit cards (one of each) into five cards…

After cutting two card bases down to 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ (to get four card front layers), I cut the edges off (about 1/16″) the two envelopes so i could open them up and have more usable printed paper. I cut each of those larger envelope layers down to get two 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ layers. The blue one I used for another card front layer. The other one I cut in half for two inside panels. And from the envelope flaps I cut them down to squares about 2-5/8″ x 2-5/8″ each (which I used for two inside panels).

So here are the first two designs outside and in.

  • The “thanks” on the first card is stamped on the back side of a Dutch, French or German sentiment circle. There were no Dimensionals used on this first card.
  • For the second card I added the speckled image off to the right/middle. The ink was lighter because I first stamped the speckled image onto scrap paper. Then I added the stamped city scene piece with Dimensionals. I glued on the dark blue corrugated thin strip (from the remains of the punched out blue corrugated banner sheet) to the white banner. And then I added the banner and happy birthday” circle with Dimensionals.

Here are the second two designs.

  • The “miss you” on the top card is stamped on the back/white side of a Dutch, French or German sentiment circle, And I used another Dutch, French or German sentiment circle for a shadow layer underneath. I added this to the French banner covering up the words. I added it the printed layer with Dimensionals. And then I add the printed layer to the card base.
  • For the other card I added the punched out negative piece behind (white on white) and attached with Dimensionals to create a city skyline with depth. Then I added this to the lower left on the blue envelope layer using the small kit Dimensionals on the outer edge. I added the sentiment banner. Then I glued on two pieces of dark blue corrugated thin strip (from the remains of the punched out blue corrugated banner sheet) just above the sentiment banner but back against the envelope base layer. I trimmed off the excess and attached to my card base.

This is the 5th card that I made from the supplies of just two. (Follow these directions with all the kit supplies and you can get 20 cards from one kit.)

  • On this last card I stamped the city scene. Then I simply added the dark blue corrugated strip and the white banner that I had already stamped. There are no Dimensionals on this card.

I used what was left over from the two envelopes to form a hexagon interior layer on this card. OH! And don’t forget to add those pretty embellishments!
