My oldest son, Nick and I just returned from a 3-day overnight 5th grade field trip to the Long Lake Conservation Center in Palisade, MN. Three classrooms of kids, 4 teachers, and 32 chaperones all took off early Monday morning for this fabulous adventure. I have so many pictures I COULD share, but I thought I'd better just share a few.
This one was taken of Nick and me by a fellow mom (my friend Chris) when the kids were learning how to use a compass on Tuesday.
Another parent, Fabian took this photo of us later that afternoon. This was Nick's favorite of all the activities he did at Long Lake. That made me feel pretty special. He could have picked one that he did with classmates, but instead he chose this one (with me!). I revealed to Nicholas that we actually own a canoe, but we rarely use it. So he is now super excited to get that down from the rafters at the cabin and canoe on Caribou Lake (where my parents live).
This is Nick helping his team build a shelter from natural resources found in nature. (This was actually the first activity Nick's group did on Monday.)
Here is Nick and one of his best friends looking down at the bog. This was also one of his favorite activities even though…
…his pants and socks got super wet when stepping into a deep spot!
Archery was one of my favorites. I loved shooting the arrows and did pretty well. Nick like the compound bow better than the recurve. Here he is with "his lucky left-handed bow."
The 5th graders only have 18 more days of school! Amazing!! Time flies. I remember people telling me not to blink when my kiddos were smaller. It's so true!
One of the other fun events coming up is the 5th Grade Farewell Party. It's a traditional event (a 2-hour party) held right after school on the last Friday. I'm on the planning committee, and I helped mostly with invitations and sharing my opinions on the decorations.
Here are the invitations and name badge lanyards we made. I designed them, and thankfully I had LOTS of help from the other parents with the mass production.
Here is our box full of personalized lanyards. These will help the kids to hold special tickets and help US to know who is who during the event.
Here are the invitations. I had everything cut and ready, and then we completed all 84 invites, name badges and lanyards in about 3 hours time during one evening about two weeks back.
Such great memories are being made in this last year at Crooked Lake Elementary. Nick is going to miss it but is looking forward to middle school next year.
This last photo was one I took on our Night Trek Tuesday evening. We really lucked out with the weather. Just look at this fabulous sunset overlooking Long Lake Conservation Center.
