I graduated high school in 1986 (now you know how old I am), so the 80's were my era. And I was (and am) a big Prince fan. So when I heard that one of my favorite teenage musical idols had passed on April 21st, I was in shock and even shed some tears that day even though I never knew him personally. His music was so much a part of my life. I think most of his fans reacted with shock. He was too young…much too young.

At the same time the world was mourning Prince (especially here in Minnesota – his home state), demonstrators were creating with a new stamp set that was given to us at OnStage: Marquee Messages. And I came up with this card. It's a little "busy," but I was trying to give it an 80's feel. I wasn't sure if I was going to share it here on my blog, but a couple of my friends told me I should. So here it is. 

Is it a tribute? I guess it is, but I really was just creating to create that day. I had been listening to Prince music and the news was all over Facebook and TV.

If you'd like to recreate this card, here is some information that may help. The supply list is below but does not include Marquee Messages since that set isn't available until June 1st.

Measurements:

• Elegant Eggplant cardstock: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" folded in half for the card base
• Perfect Plum cardstock: 4" x 5-1/4" for the inside layer, 1-1/4" x 2-1/4" for the banner on the front (or a little longer if using the Banner Triple Punch to shape it), and 1" x 5" for the diagonal strip across the lower front.
• Basic Black cardstock: 4" x 5-1/4"
• Whisper White cardstock: 4" x 2-1/2" for stamping and die-cutting numbers and 3-1/4" x 1-1/2" for banner on the inside (or a little longer if using the Banner Triple Punch to shape it)

Tips:

• Stamp the number images with Elegant Eggplant ink, then use the Aqua Painter to "wash" the ink around the numbers. Allow to dry, then die-cut. (These will be attached to the card with Dimensionals that have been cut in half.)
• Punch the Perfect Plum banner before stamping images with Elegant Eggplant ink.
• Stamp the "swoosh" images on the Perfect Plum strip with Perfect Plum ink. After adding a 1/2 doily to the bottom right side, attach this strip to the embossed Basic Black piece.

Creating is therapeutic.
