I had to get this chick stamp the minute I saw it when it was presented along with other sneak peek products at Stampin' Up!'s OnStage event in November. I think it's the most adorable animal image ever! He comes from our Sale-A-Bration stamp set called Honeycomb Happiness (available in wood-mount or clear-mount).

This little guy is going to be on one of my Stamp-a-Stack cards this month. I think this card design will be great for "welcome baby" cards, small child birthday cards and anything related to Spring (including Easter which will sneak up on us quickly – It's in March this year).
For my Stamp-a-Stack events, I offer 10 cards – 2 of 5 designs. But the 2 of each design can be different versions of that one design. So my stampers are really going home with 10 different cards. (I'll share the others I've designed for my January Stamp-a-Stack soon in future posts.)
Here are some tips for recreating this card.
Tips:
- Make it easy! Use our Perfectly Artisitic Designer Series Paper (available only through February 15th) instead of watercoloring with ink to "color" your chick. This is a technique called "paper piecing." You basically stamp the image onto designer paper or cardstock. Then you cut the image out and attach it onto your project. To avoid having the cut super precisely around your image, also stamp the same image on your project where you will want it to go. That way if you cut off too much of the outline, it can share the outline from the base image and look flawless. And in this case, I did not want to cut around the feet, so I definitely needed the base image to be there.
- Use only half or a third of a Tea Lace Paper Doily and just a strip of accent cardstock. Why waste when the rest won't show.
- And cut your designer paper for the background to 4" x 4". You can get 9 this size from one sheet of 12" x 12" with no waste.
Measurements:
- Whisper White Thick Cardstock: 4- 1/4" x 11" folded in half for the base of the card & 2" x 5-1/2" for the tag (this is then punched at both ends so it ends up being shorter)
- Daffodil Delight cardstock: 4" x 1/2"
- It's My Party Designer Series Paper: 4" x 4"
- Daffodil Delight 1/4" Cotton Ribbon: about 6-7"
Both the Honeycomb Happiness stamp set and the Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper are Sale-A-Bration products – that means you can earn them for free. (Gotta love that!) Oh Rachel, I think our chickadee’s in Iowa would be upset as you referring a chick as in a hen and rooster’s baby chick as a chickadee. But, if you were using this as a term of endearment, then that is o.k. I think the birds would understand.
Such a cute little card and easily CASed. We could change up the sentiments and DP quite easily. Love the little doily peaking out under the banner. Great idea! Thanks for the inspiration!
Oh, gosh! You are so right, Chris! Chickadees are completely different! That’s what I get for working at 11 PM. LOL. I’ll change that now. Thanks!
Sorry, I had to laugh as I thought you probably didn’t even know you had called it that. Sort of goes with W.C. Fields ” Come here my little chickadee!” or whatever it was. Our license plate has the chickadee on it too so that was my reminder.
Whatever, I still loved your little chick cards. So very cute!
Yep! I was in total “la-la land”. My parents are bird watchers, and get chickadees at their houses all the time. You think I would’ve caught that one. LOL So glad you told me.
