Merry Christmas! Hope you a got something you wanted this year. I certainly did. My new room is a dream come true!!
If you haven't been following along, I've been posting this past month about my craft room/office space getting renovated. And on December 14th, I shared some progression photos and notes about the accomplishments of just 5 days of work. Eleven more days have passed since then, and the room is completed enough where I can use it fully. I just need to move my office side stuff back in. So I thought I would share some more progression photos today on Christmas day since this was my gift to myself this year.
(Click here first to see Days 1-5 if you didn't see that post.)
Monday, Day 6 – ran into a glitch in the flooring that slowed us down (the floor was very uneven, so Dad did some time-intensive corrective work), found someone who could paint my Stamp-N-Storage pieces & she picked them up this afternoon.
Tuesday, Day 7 – found another very uneven spot in the floor, purchased and poured "self-leveling" cement and fashioned a bridge over it since it was right at the foot of the stairs, put together some more cabinets since the floor had to wait (again)
Wednesday, Day 8 – Ikea shopping trip (which took up a lot of time since it's a 45 minute drive there and back) to do a few returns and pick up under-cabinet lighting, my counter tops, and my new office chair, and… put in a few more cabinets that evening.
Thursday, Day 9 – accomplished a ton today (hubby took the day off and helped a lot!), got the rest of the cabinets in, and added many shelves, drawers and cabinet doors.
Friday, Day 10 – cut counter tops to fit (one fully installed!), Stamp-N-Storage pieces came back from the painter, some extra furniture pieces (1/2 of the Kallax unit and my stamp set shelf that we altered so it could hang on the wall) were assembled
Saturday, Day 11 (my parents stayed to get more done while we went out of town for the Jandro family Christmas gathering) – toe kicks for the cabinets installed, rest of the counter tops secured, extra bonus shelf cut and installed under the desk to hold modem and other computer connections (this wasn't in the original plans – Dad is so clever!), touched up parts of the Stamp-N-Storage pieces
Sunday, Day 12 (I came back before noon since I drove separately) – some of the cabinet lighting installed, stamp set shelf unit installed and sections painted, the big Ikea Kallax unit finally added – the bottom and top (not completely secured yet, though), floor boards put back in place and painted, the Stamp-N-Storage pieces put in place (ahhhh!!!) late at night after taking these photos
Pssst…see the extra bonus shelf under the desk to hold my computer "extras?" My daddy is so smart.
Monday & Tuesday, Days 13 & 14 (my parents went home which is 4 hours away to take a break, rest and get ready for Christmas) – moved a bunch of stuff into my crafting area of the room (see the beautiful Stamp-N-Storage pieces!), added drawers to the Kallax unit, took another trip to Ikea to switch out a couple small drawers for a bigger one AND to exchange the office chair (ugh! I picked the wrong one on the previous trip.)
Wednesday, Thursday (Christmas Eve), & Friday (today…Christmas Day), Day 15-17 – finished securing the Kallax unit and added the cabinet doors on top, finished the edging on the exposed counter tops, enlarged the computer cord hole in the mini shelf under the desk and tucked up the cords, finished the last section of the flooring – the trim piece connecting to the hallway, finished the under cabinet lighting, and moved even more of my things in
Here is a photo of my favorite spot in the room!
Everything is right at my fingertips in this standing work space thanks to these super-duper Stamp-N-Storage units along my shelf. You might want to click here to check out all the products that this company offers. I have several of their pieces, but I don't have them all. And they are having a New Year's Sale right now (tonight through January 4th) – a great time to get your hands on something fun for YOUR space.
I own 12 pieces total –
- Lock-down punch holder (64)…30-3/4” wide
- Ribbon Shelf…32-1/2” wide
- Combo ink pad, marker, reinker holder (60)…30-13/16” wide
- Corner shelf w/back
- Standard ink pad holder (36)…13” wide
- 12”x12” Paper Storage Units for Kallax/Ikea…13”x13” (6 of them!)
- and…a Medium Die Shelf
I'm so glad my room is at this point. The only things left to work on are…
- new lighting for the ceiling
- edging trim added under the wall cabinets
- and window shades
After that I will make a video to give you a tour of my new room! But for now, I have a new office AND craft room space that is now super organized, inspirational, and very functional for my needs. I have more room for my things than I ever imagined. And I feel pretty blessed this Christmas.
Thanks again to my husband, Tim and our two boys for putting up with and helping out with all the mess and chaos. It's been a very challenging month even without the renovation. And we lived through it!
And a very BIG thanks to Tim and my parents, Bob & Margo for all the physical labor, skills, know-how, and creativity given to my new room! I am so appreciative… more than words can say.
To those of you who have been emailing and messaging me words of encouragement, thank you as well. I LOVED reading them!
It is beautiful!, Rachel. But you know… I love to see your dad there for you. He reminds of mine. He seems to be such a sweet man. What a privilege to have him there for you. Congratulations for your new craft room. Enjoy!

Thanks, Laurie! I’m glad you like my colors. Green isn’t for everyone, but it definitely energizes me and makes me want to create.
LOVELY, Rachel! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Rachel, Your room turned out wonderful; very happy for you.
Beautiful Rachel. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your new space.
PS…..can’t believe how much the color of your room looks like my studio.

Thanks, Sherry. I’m in it all the time now. 😀
We have the same taste! Green energizes me.
I love everything about my room…the chair included. Best wishes with your remodel. How exciting!
Sorry this week didn’t pan out for us. Yes! We need to pick a new date. Sunday is when my full week begins though. So not sure about next week yet. Thanks for leaving a sweet comment, my friend.
Thanks, Mary! I think so. 🙂
Hi! I love your room! Very jealous, but also inspired. Can you tell me what you purchased at Ikea? I know the Kallax, but what about the corner cabinet? Is that a kitchen cabinet? And the lighting, did you get that at ikea, and if so, what was it called? What do you love? I am planning on going to Ikea this weekend to get my start, and would love to know what you recommend. Thanks!
I am jealous but so happy for you. I have a room but still working on the plans. It might be best for me to show my hubby after he finishes mine so that he won’t know what to expect lol he might give up. Looks great.
You are so fortunate to have such great helpers. I ran into a similar problem with flooring, found major cracks in the concrete slab. We are still waiting for the concrete to cure! It gets pretty cold having to run fans inside your house to dry the wicking construction moisture up and out of the concrete so we can lay the floor. We will be 2 months the first of February. We also have been very fortunate to find nice people to work with. Families are marvelously patient! Your new space looks wonderful! When finished my space will incorporate existing cabinets with new. Looking forward to the designing portion. Glad you have shared your ideas. Love your color choices as well.
Hello- thanks for sharing your awesome craft room pictures! Please tell me where you got the tall white corner cabinet and the name of it if it is from Ikea.
Thank you! Kim
I love your new crafting space! Great job! I know you are so excited and proud! Thanks for sharing your space with us all! Enjoy! 🙂
All the cabinets, lighting under the cabinets, and counter tops are Ikea, too. And they are the kitchen cabinetry. For lighting I got the Ansluta remote transformers and cords and the Omlopp lights. For cabinets I went with the Haggeby and Laxarby fronts, and the counter top is Ekbacken. Hope that helps.
I absolutely love it all!
It was more work than I had thought…always unexpected things come up (like having to level the floor!), but I am so happy we did it. In fact, we aren’t done yet…Dad is putting trim under the cabinets today. And then we have ceiling lighting and window treatments that will have to go in a couple weeks from now when everything arrives. Of course, the final touch ups too. But what a blessing to have a new place that inspires you. Best wishes!
Thank you, Linda. I appreciate your empathy. It IS incredible what creeps up on you that you don’t expect. Best wishes with your new space!
Oh gosh…that and the piece to it’s left (on the right when looking at it) are not from Ikea. Those are actually two older pieces that I couldn’t find online or in Home Depot anymore. They were closet pieces – Mills Pride brand. (Those and a tiny 1/4 circle mini shelf are the only pieces I owned previously.)
Thanks so much, Tonya!
Rachel, your space is Gor-Gee-Ous! I really love the ledge that goes around the room, you have incorporated it into the design beautifully. I may have missed it somewhere in your post but how big is the room? Thanks.
Gorgeous room, so organized,
I am so jealous. Wonderful to have family that can do that for/ with you.
Thank you, Nancy. 🙂
Good question. I don’t think I had mentioned the room measurements. It’s 12 feet x 20 feet.
Sweet of you to comment. Thanks, MaryAnn. Yes, I feel very blessed.
So happy for you!! Your space is beautiful! You’re so blessed to have all of your peeps help.
Thanks, Marcia. 😀
Rachel – Did you go with the 8 unit Kallax?? Hard to tell in the photos. I’m finishing my scrapbook room at the moment, but don’t have the wall space.
I did the 8 and the 4 together. The 4 is on top. 🙂
Aren’t Daddy’s the best? My dad helped me with my first stamp room and it was dream! It about killed me to sell the house since he has since passed. SO happy for you! Enjoy your beautiful room and YOUR beautiful family. It is clear you all love each other very much. Much deserved.
What a lovely comment, Marette. Thank you for your sweet words. And I’m so sorry about your Dad’s passing. My heart breaks to even imagine my life without my parents. Yes, we are a super close family.
I love your room, I use to have a nice big beautiful relaxing room till some fool drove his
truck completely thru my whole home and half way into my craft room. So now waiting to rebuild
and trying to find new ideas for my new playroom
Oh my gosh! Seriously?! I only thought that stuff happened in the movies. Best wishes with your new remodel. Hope insurance will help out some. I can’t even imagine!
Love your colors. How did you paint the stamp n storage pieces? What type of paint. Very pretty in white!!!! Enjoy your dream room!
It was NOT the way I’d recommend…The gal I hired used a water-based paint which made the wood swell. She was trying to save me on money. But I think had we waited until Spring when we could take the pieces outside, we would’ve used spray paint. We ended up having to re-sand and paint several parts of the pieces because of the issues that took place during the professional painter’s job. But that stress is all behind us now. Just know that if you decide to paint them, you should not use a water based type paint.
And they ARE even better looking in person. I just love my new room.
Love your room. You lucky girl you. Where did you get the tall white shelving unit that looks like it is curved? Is that Ikea’s Billy?
Thank you, Cathy. 🙂
No, that curved piece was one that I had beforehand…Mills Pride brand that Home Depot used to carry over 10 years ago. They don’t carry it anymore, nor could I find it online on the Mills Pride website. Sorry about that.
How did you come up with the plan? That is the hard part.
Pea
Hahaha! I love to plan. But it took many weeks of thought, listing all the items that I had in my old room and where I wanted them to be in the new layout, and planning where I wanted my work stations. The Ikea website also has a great “kitchen planning” tool so you can see in 3-D what how the cabinets will fit and look.
