On June 22nd I shared a beautiful card that I received from my friend and very talented demonstrator on my team, Cheryl Lee. I was so in awe, that used this scoring and sponging technique for my WOW Swap for Convention. (Woo hoo! Convention is next week! I can't wait!!)
Here is my WOW Swap card.
I also took pictures of a few steps along the way to give you more of a "visual" for how to achieve this background.
My measurements:
- Bermuda Bay card stock (4-1/4" x 11” scored in half at 5-1/2”)
- Pool Party card stock (4” x 4”)
- Whisper White card stock (3-1/2” x 4-3/4” for inside & 1-3/4” x 2-3/4”)
- Basic Black card stock (1-7/8” x 2-7/8”)
- Silver Foil paper (2” x 3”)
- Basic Black Stitched Satin ribbon – about 14"
First set up the Diagonal Plate on the Scoring Tool.
(See a list of ALL supplies used to make this card at the bottom of this post.)
Then position your 4” x 4” Pool Party card stock into the upper left corner. Using the one-inch marks on the Scoring Tool edges as starting points, score your card stock in one direction. Then rotate your card stock 90 degrees. Use the same one-inch marks and score your card stock again so your new score lines are perpendicular to the others.
Fold along all your score lines and lightly sponge Bermuda Bay ink just on BOTH sides of each fold.
(This photo shows what my card stock looked like after sponging ink on only the left side of each fold.)
(This photo show the same piece of card stock next to one that has been sponged on BOTH sides of each fold.)
(After sponging BOTH side on one set of fold marks, then you need to do the same for the perpendicular set of fold marks! Tedious, but SO worth the results!)
Now attach this piece to the card using SNAIL adhesive. Wrap your ribbon around the card front layer and tie in a knot. (Trim ends.) Stamp the dragonfly images on the Whisper White card stock pieces using Tuxedo Black ink. Stamp the splatter images on the Whisper White card stock pieces using Pool Party ink. Sponge Pool Party ink on lightly. Then attach the inside layer of Whisper White card stock with SNAIL adhesive. Attach the small white piece to the Basic Black card stock and then to the Silver Foil paper. Add this to the front of your card using Dimensionals. Lastly add drops of Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details to the Pool Party scored paper layer – just a small drop where each score line intersects and just the intersections you can see. (Be sure to allow the Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details time to dry.)
And that's it!
I'm not sure if you all know this, but I am a big fan of insects. I find them so interesting! And my favorite insects are the pretty "winged" ones – especially butterflies and dragonflies. So I was super excited that Awesomely Artistic was one of the new stamp sets this year!
(This "friend" let me hold him a couple times while we were swimming at the lake during the Fourth of July weekend.)

VERY nice. I’m going to try this technique. TFS!!!
🙂
I love this! It would make a beautiful background for almost any card. Thank you so much for sharing!
I totally agree! (You are so welcome.)
