I'm enjoying spending time with family this Memorial Day weekend. We are up north at the lake, my parent's home in northern Minnesota. And the weather is SURPRISINGLY perfect. So we are enjoying every minute of it and have been down at the lake both Saturday and Sunday.
Though the temps have been in the 80's, the lake water is freezing cold. But Luke (shown at the top), Nick (shown in the second photo), and Robbie (their cousin) don't seem to care or even notice. I'm proud that I was able to at least dip my feet in yesterday thanks to a little peer-pressure from my sister.
If you also have today off from school and work, I hope you are able to take some time to enjoy your family and/or friends.
Today's project is a card that features an easy yet striking technique. First I stamped and embossed the main flower and leaf images from the Peaceful Petals stamp set onto the Marina Mist (lighter blue) card stock. Then with a high-quality paintbrush (cheap ones will disintegrate), I painted on liguid bleach within the lines of the embossed images. The bleach will lighten and remove color where it is added, so be careful not to go outside the lines too much. After the bleach was completely dry, I colored these bleached areas. I used our Stampin' Write Markers in Daffodil Delight and Wild Wasabi from the Subtles Collection.
And a big thank you to the demonstrator who swapped a similar card with me months ago (sorry, I have lost that swapper's name) using a different stamp set. Obviously I loved the layout and colors of her original card. If I find that information, I will be sure to revise this post to give her credit.
You can see from the above photos how I added the pieces of ribbon.
The "thinking of you" phrase shown in this photo comes from that same stamp set – Peaceful Petals. The Happy Birthday image is one that I created with our new Circle Monogram personalized stamps. Here is a post I wrote when these stamps were first introduced. There are so many possibilities of what you can create with the monogram stamp. And did you know you can order them along with any other Stampin' Up! products on the internet through my Online Store?)
